Loved Ska and 2 tone music when growing up. The Specials were a 2 tone band with that genre named after their record label. I remember this track being No.1 in the UK charts in the 80s. It is pretty much a social commentary on what was going on back then with the growing wealth disparity and some towns just being left behind whilst others prospered. At the time, I just thought it was a cool song that reminded me of ghost trains and Halloween 😂 Too Much Too Young is another great track by The Specials.

they where also reacting to the violence brought by second generation skinheads (or boneheads to use a more correct term) that contrary to the orignal skinheads where racist and far more violent and would attack the dance floors, which had been mostly dispensing afro-american music for the last few decades (soul before the mods, then soul and RnB with mods, ska, reggae, 2 tone with the original skinheads, punks where heading in another direction musically but had crossovers, rockers .. well we al know the true roots of that music). All of these sub groups would fight back but not in an organised fashion so it was a mess for a while, and in fact had been already between mods and rockers so .... "too much fighting on the dance floors" and the inevitable consequences !

That kind of happened, to a lesser degree, in my hometown. The biggest labour force was wiped out when the local paper mill, and the kraft and groundwood mills they owned, were bought out by a Finnish company, and after a few years, was shut down. They only bought it because my hometown paper mill had contracts with some of the major American magazine distributors, and was killing their opportunity to distribute in North America. The population went from close to 30,000 to about 16,000 very quickly.

The Specials (known as The Special A.K.A. in their early days) were part of the revival of the 'Mod' movement from the late '70s through to the mid '80s, in the UK, there were a lot of Ska and Two Tone groups around that time, The Specials were one of the earlier ones to make a breakthrough, as 'The Special a.k.a.' with their track 'Gangsters', which borrowed heavily from 'Prince Buster - Al Capone' an original Ska track.

@@declanpower1810 I'm sorry but you're wrong, it was a Mod revival kicked off by the film 'Quadrophenia' by 'The Who' in 1979 which was about a gang of Mods, I was 19 in 1979 in the UK where it started so, I lived through it, yes, the Ska thing was happening at the same time and had a strong presence, but that didn't influence the fashion, scooters, etc, then the two things did blur into one thing after a while but it was the Mod revival which started. The fact that Ska music was popular at the time isn't the issue, again you said it wasn't a Mod revival but it was as you can see if you read the information in the link. The Two Tone movement was kicked off by the Mod revival and incorporated Ska music in it, that why you had new bands with Ska type music forming under that movement and label, otherwise why did people dress in the Modernist style, ride scooters, etc, if it was just Ska? I haven't denied that there Ska music became popular again around that time. All you have to do is read the article that I gave you the link for and it explains what was happening.

I recommend that people listen to "The Boiler" by Rhoda Dakar & The Specials. It's about a woman who knows she's not much to look at, she calls herself an old Boiler several times during the song. Rhoda describes how a man chats her up, buys her new clothes and takes her to a Nightclub. He insists that she stay the night at his place, she resists, then gives in to his demands, he then drags her along at a brutal pace up a lane way. It's then that Rhoda Dakar gives one of the more convincing vocal performances in music history. If there was an award category, then she would win it. She paints a picture that I don't want to visualise
