Yes, South Korean troops may have participated, in the loosest sense, in GWOT ; however, it is delusional to assert that they gained any relevant combat experience. Vietnam was half a century ago and thus not relevant for troops today.

@@charlesdenman9052 hate to be negative now but per my main Vietnam vet officer friend, it was SK troops who had the sadistic/cruel reputation & were accused of war crimes. I like to mention it bcuz some of the elite troops from several countries including us of course were reasonably suspected of war crimes. Many of us americans born during the war got to know a lot about the war and it even formed our formal educations and got us into these fields like military, and international policy, etc.

What are the chances that Kim Jong Un lets ANY of those North Korean soldiers back into North Korea to talk to friends and relatives about what life is REALLY like in the outside world?

The obvious North Korean motivation no one mentions: cash. Assuming the going rate of US$ 2,000/mo for mercenaries just a 1,500 strong battalion brings in a cool US$3m per month. Even with volume discounts that figure scales nicely for a country short of hard currency and a huge standing army.
@thor9563Ай бұрын
I agree with one minor point: The UN family pockets all money paid by Russsieee or China for their services. And Koreans will learn that VODKA helps them gain courage before they join the meat assaults against Ukrainians.
@linkoraedikuz8139Ай бұрын
Those are North Korean combat troops. Why would the DPRK send 12k “technicians” to the battlefield? MACV operated as advisors in Vietnam, but often got into contact with the adversary. It’s a slippery slope, but it’s highly likely Kim is using the opportunity to get North Korea some much needed combat experience.

From China' POV, priority is that Putin does not lose. But China cannot overtly provide too much support, whether material, financial, or in terms of military manpower. Hence having N Korea step up to provide troops is a great blessing, it provides aid to Putin whilst giving China plausible deniability.

Isn't it somewhat presumptuous to assume that the Russian fighting strategy is old-fashioned and unsophisticated. After all, the Ukrainian army is trained by the US/West, and their 'sophisticated' fighting strategy ain't working so well in the field. Strategy manifests itself in many forms and has to be developed to suit the different situations. There is no such thing as an old fashion/unsophisticated strategy if it is effective and working well.

Fat, stupid, effeminate, LGBTQIA+KFC Chicken bureaucrats can't see that real war is brutal and horrible. They like to live in their own bubble where nothing ever actually threatens them. And they can keep shilling for defense contractors. So, yeah, they're presumptuous. They're also ignorant of reality, shortsighted, unwilling to learn, and corrupt. I don't think anyone at CSIS has ever even held a gun. And because they read reports and habitually reduce the lives of men to numbers on a spreadsheet, they think their opinion actually matters. The problem is that it does matter because important people do listen to them. So, yes even though they're often wrong about everything due to a fundamental misunderstanding of reality, if you want to be an informed voter you should at least know what they're saying.
@bakedbean37Ай бұрын
"the Ukrainian army is trained by the US/West" But is being restrained and hamstrung by the west over concerns of escalation. Russia is struggling against Ukraine that doesn't have the means to carry out the sort of response that an unrestrained NATO would. However much Putin claims his forces are fighting NATO doesn't make it so. " if it is effective and working well." It's because their opponent has his hand tied behind his back. That won't always be true.

Why is there no mention of manpower as a component of this conflict. Also, regardless, Russian progress is very slow. This could easily become a quagmire. We don't yet know.
