THE SPITS = PUNK ROCK To me its like DEVO and THE RAMONES had a child together :-)))

check out the pre-lp stuff on 19 million ac. after a show, erin wrote down about 50 obscure bands, im not that green...i own nearly 10k lps, owned a record shop and have done my homework...needless to say id heard of about 10-12 and actually heard about half. ive downloaded or sought out most of them...eventualy got toplay shows with them (yeah, they are a band who will give you a song to not suck--most of the time you open for a band you dig and seldom do they even watch). theres a lot more going on than ramones with a microkorg.

obvious a heavy ramones on ludes sound is an obvious pigeonhole...dont hear Devo so much as bands like Crime or i dunno...in 2000 it sounded like nothing else. Early covers of GG Allin and odes to Wendy 0, a clear kbd influence suggested there was more going on. the solos, snappy drumming and sense of humor--they really were more original than Ramones plus synth. Lost Sounds were heavily using synth thanks to Alicja Trout and not so sure Jay was confident with them at first, but they were given credit for helping introduce synth to the garage scene.

i remember first hearing these guys and, along with early 00's bands like AFRAMES, Country Teasers (yeah, i know they were around mid 90s...but had changed by 00...Clone Defects, Ponys, Lost Sounds, etc....bands a few years ahead of their time that would influence the next few decades were mere cult bands, totally ignored by anything but Termbo or Goner or Smashng Transistors. Driving an hour to see many of these bands play tiny clubs to 20 people...im glad these guys were able to stick it out. Others had to get jobs or just had other problems. I wish AFRAMES - 10 was in the can, but what followed was more top notch shit. i swear i saw these guys seriously thinking about hanging it up. Good to see them making a living (i hope). Aframes spawned the Intelligence. At some point the very non detroit sounding detroit based Tyvek ruled punk. Punk without moshpits. Home Blitz. Human Eye. shit, everytime some nostalgic twit champions their decade as the last decade...wanna punch em in the face with my shortlist. Bless these Spits. Got to open for them in several cities, but never my own. Hometown hate. Great fellas.

Sean and Erin grew up and went to high School in Allegan MI, we used to cruise South Haven for girls as teens and we smoked a shit load of pot back then too! Sean always had to have a cig in his mouth when he would talk to girls lol! Good times, Me, Ray Brown, Eddie Brown, Jeff Russel, Bill Northrup and the Wood brothers! I never knew they even played music, they never spoke of it or played, they were just stoners like the rest of us. I am 49, I started playing guitar at 13, I wish they had told me back then that they played, we could have jammed together! I am so happy for them, great dudes and funny af!!

The Spits seem like the final punk band. Also nice 42 minute set, I have seen The Spits on tour live 3 different times and they played between 18-20 minutes tops.

gotta give em credit for seeing them play for 15 people (10 who drove an an hour) and, them finally smiling after refusing to let them leave, they played another 25 minutes (they were demoralized and tried to end it after 20 minutes)...we were pretty blasted and going nuts. talked to em after, they seemed like theyd had it..a year later they were drawing and cost a good guarantee, well deserved. Great people, seriously mean it! Will never forget seeing the first lp. Mohawks, Moustaches and Overcoats
