The fairest tactic in this game is to claim that you both pick the ball of the opponent. Then you have a 50% chance to win something. If the opponent don't agree, you threat to pick steal if he/she don't let you pick. And if you loose (because you pick steal at the opponent) it's your own fault. Simple... no Mind games. GG

I know this comment is 7 years old, but this is such a cool thought. If there were a way to credibly enforce this rule ON YOURSELF, then you're golden, because now, the other person is looking at 1/2 if they split, or 0 if they steal, so the choice is easy.
