Toured inside that Spruce Goose at Long Beach back in 80s. It's about as large as a 747! Great wood craftsmanship!!

I also saw it when it shared the pier with the Queen Mary. Now both are gone. :( On the other hand, someone cares enough to keep them from being scrapped so I don't feel bad that I'd have to make separate trips if I wanted to visit either attraction in the future.

My grandpa helped build the dome in LB. I got to visit him while he was welding but the plane wasn’t in the dome yet. I was really young and don’t remember much of my visit but I do remember the inside of the dome was unbelievably huge.

Not me it's that much further to. Drive well then again maybe it's better off with u up there it was going to be probably would have ended up as chips in a dump had u guys not taken it. The amount of development that probably will never be matched in pure skill as engineers with. Very little in knowledge of what is possible and what is not for them to build it and I believe it would have done exactly what it was designed for and Hughes knew it was a marvel . Very little in appreciation did people have in its extream feat of engineering and still until his death he cherished and protected the impossible feat he accomplished.im in awe of its capabilities .how many planes today could haul what it could and how many can take the forces of the water landings and even still yet be. Not made of much metals .insane.just like him (Howard) was. But still makes me laugh at the thought of it being just a bit below Boeing the competition. In its final landing both naval and aeronautical.

Howard Hughes is my cousin. He'd be happy to know the plane is cared for and preserved. However, he fucking hated it being called by "that name". It's "The Hercules". The last person to call it "Spruce Goose" in his presence he grabbed by the throat, slammed into a wall, and then my cousin threw that person through a window that was not at ground level. That's called a "Flying Lesson" in my Father's side of my family, The Hughes Family. I can assure you that I have endured many "flying lessons" as a kid. Never piss us off.

this plane never "flew" for more than a few hundred feet and was solely designed to take off from the water.
@joekurtz83033 жыл бұрын
We had a huge Martin Mars seaplane here when SoCal was shopping for water dump aircraft for fires. Watched it takeoff, similar in size to H1, taxied out by Belmot pier, pointed west, took over a mile of sea surface to get takeoff speed & finally lifted off- ocean tides/ not bad in our breakwater protected port. It was a Sight to see. 🛫👀

Carlo- Spare us the smug, potty mouth routine. You know it's true, the people who disliked this video likely did so because they know this plane was designed, paid for and built by a bunch of mostly white guys and Howard Hughes didn't like big government. The fact that you personally aren't one of the dislikes on this video changes nothing. You're probably no less of a racist, America hating bigot than the average Liberal.
@acarlovonsexron19946 жыл бұрын
Wow, this a lot of presumptuous projections that has literally nothing to do with aircraft or aviation. Can we not for once come together to appreciate a marvel of engineering, or is that also just some hippy dippy kumbaya politically correct liberal horseshit? The latter? Alright, you guys have a Merry Christmas anyways.

It’s my understanding that Evergreen Avation is now in financial tourmoil and just sold another piece of war- time history, their B-17, in order to avoid bankruptcy.
