Benjamin K. I can see how someone could think that, but I would say it takes a certain level of acting and comedic genius to be able to play these gimmick kind of characters in way that makes everyday people actually believe he is that character. Even though Borat seemed silly, it was essentially a social commentary regarding the state of America at the time he filmed it. I would also say his characters always have an element of social commentary that cannot be overlooked or seen as silly in my opinion. I think the culmination of his “silliness” was shown in the show he did before The Spy called Who is America. To be able to play that many different characters in front of prominent figures in such a way as to disarm them so they show their true selves on camera is truly a masterclass in acting and performance, but again just my opinion.

Sometimes some liberty is taken and a character may represent a group of people, like the lady scientist in the series Chernobyl. Her character did not exist. Eli's minder may also be a representative of minders in general because no one has heard of the man. The series Rome, Vikings, The Last Kingdom has similar traits. Still, the nuts and bolts of Eli Cohen's story is very sound. I've had Our Man In Damascus sitting on bookshelf for years and its about time I read it.

As a syrian person who saw the series, it made me sad how they pushed him to die. What did Mosad try to help him....nothing. War and politicians just play with the life of simple people.

I enjoyed watching it but a large part of it isn’t factual. Cohen himself had serious doubts about going back to Syria in late 1964, fearing that he would be discovered. Mossad itself did not have the resources to attempt a rescue operation at that time, so they tried other means to put pressure on the Syrian government, but they refused.

Cohen himself didn't want to go back to Syria, and his handlers didn't, but the information he was gathering and damage he was committing as Deputy Minister of Defence were simply too great to not risk him again. Mossad did everything they could to help him, hiring top French lawyers to defend him in court, but it's not like they're going to send a team into Syria (keep in mind this is the 60s, Israel doesn't have US support yet) to save him.

This is the Good Will Hunting role that transformed Sasha Cohen into a serious actor, like Robin Williams. To be clear, Sasha is no Robin William's when it comes to comedy, be he is a serious dramatic actor worthy if an Emmy.
