So looking forward to getting my Wolfspyder for Christmas, it will be perfect for little jobs (I keep my Mora handy for the bigger ones) Not sure if Ray ever reads these comments but just to say you have shown me so much over the years and given me inspiration, if I ever meet you the beer is on me. all the best from mountain bear outdoors UK

Looks perfectly fine. My carving skill is limited to a pointy stick so my $50 knife is more than enough but if I was a Spyderco fan or a collector I'd want it. Thank you for having it made in America. FYI we can have knives with bigger blades in most states here. Anything under 6 inches is a little girls toy.

+the oncoming storm I can only imagine the cost of retooling equipment to do a small run of knives compared to everything else they do. Not to mention covering the knives under their warranty, and their very tight qc standards. 200 does not seem out of the question.

@williamgreen3492 8 жыл бұрын
+the oncoming storm you make a good point. it is better to just not buy the knife and move on, instead of complaining, is what I was getting at in my other comment.BTW probably it's so expensive because it's ray mears brand. kit thats branded tends to be more expensive. go see bear grylls geber, like 60 quid for a multi tool, and it's fixed blades are actually not very good, and his "ultimate pro fixed blade" (not making this up) is £119, that's 168 dollars. One of the excellent top of the range stainless mora knives is ten quid, however the super speshul branded BG one is 120. all about the stuff written on the side bruv.

+the oncoming storm I think the part you are forgetting is that $200 may not seem unreasonable to others. Not everyones idea of expensive is the same. That doesn't make them brainwashed man. Either way that's their cost and everyone has to deal with it or not hahaha.

Add this to the £500 Alan Wood knife in O1 steel and you have a good money maker. No knife is worth £500. (US$610; AU$800) Names are worth money, to the gullible; but not to those who actually use real tools themselves.

He’s worth it. His Woodlaw design knife is copied by many and is recognised as the classic knife for bushcraft. Unlike some he did not register the design so made no money out of it. I only have a copy as I simply can’t afford the original but the Wolf Spider is much more affordable and no more expensive than other quality folders.

There's nothing wrong with S30V; it's a very fine blade steel. There's nothing wrong with CNC-milled blade stock, frames or scales; this can be a highly efficient, consistent and quality determined method for machining parts. There's nothing wrong with the quality of Spyderco knives produced in either Golden or, for that matter, Taiwan. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with Scandi-ground blades. There's nothing wrong with frame-lock designed folding knives. The marriage of all these things together to produce this outdoor cutting tool is, however, a gross miscalculation.
@ensom
@ensom 8 жыл бұрын
+M00nsplitter i suspect s30v might be a bit chippy, on such a scandi ground blade.. but i suppose that depends on the heat treatment. if they wanted to go stainless, i think cpm s35vn would probably be a better choice, and easier to maintain a scandi edge on as well.

I own 10 or so Spydercos, love their Bushcraft fixed blade, the blade shape on this looks good but the handle...not so much. I wish they would just translate their fixed blade bushcraft into folder form. Still this knife may feel better than it looks, i'll give it a chance if i ever get to paw one in person.

What's the use in getting bent out of shape about a folder for? I've used work man's knives as folders (pruning, electricians, Opinel's) since I was a kid and they've never let me down as long as they're used for what a folders designed for. If you feel a $200 folder with Rays name on it is going to make you a better bush crafter then have at it!!

Universal Kombat shit and unsafe. That’s why most carry a locked one that’s still under 3 inches in blade length. Then you can just act ignorant and say you though as long as it was over 3 inches and not fixed blade it was legal.

You’re one of the few then. They are notorious for telling customers that defective knives are “within their tolerances” or “within spec” to avoid having to honor warranty claims. They have some of the worst business practices I’ve ever seen from a company, let alone a knife company.

cool design but why s30v, did Spyderco learn nothing from the Nilakka? S30v is a good steel for a sec knife but it has poor edge stability due to high carbide content. This knife should have an O1, 52100 or even blade or if you want stainless (don't know why you would on a bushcraft knife) use Aeb-l, Sandvick steel's, lc200n or bd1/bd1n since they have better edge stability,lower carbide content and easier to sharpen.
@jaredlanny03
@jaredlanny03 7 жыл бұрын
You may be right... but I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss spyderco's stuff: i've had a lot of knives over the years, but I haven't found a better one than my Spyderco Native - sharpens relatively easily, stays sharp as a razor even through a lot of abuse: never had so much as a notch in the blade.They know their stuff.
@D00MTR33
@D00MTR33 7 жыл бұрын
Jared Harward I know Spyderco knows their stuff, I have about 15 spydies now and had many more. That said s30v isn't the best steel for low angles since it's a high carbide steel. I have a Nilakka and had issues with the zero grind(it's been documented as well) but after a few sharpening a and a micro bevel it's much better. There's a reason you see either carbon steel's or lower carbide stainless like Sandvik's steel on Scandi knives. It's because they can hold that type of edge better.
