The SRf-06 Dahle (Water Type)

The SRf-06 Dahle was a general purpose mobile suit used by the breakaway South Seas Alliance on Earth in UC 0080. Due to a lack of funds, the Dahle was constructed from salvaged parts of discarded Earth Federation Forces and Principality of Zeon mobile suits from the One Year War. Elements of the RGM-79 GM and MS-06F Zaku II were evident in the Dahle’s design. The Dahle made use of weapons from both the EFF and Zeon, including machine guns, a heat hawk, shield and a Zaku bazooka. The Alliance also created custom float equipment that allowed the Dahle to function on the surface of water for aquatic combat. In August UC 0080, ground and water type Dahles attacked an MSM-04 Acguy team led by Daryl Lorenz.
(In the manga, the Dahle is known as RRf-06 Zanny and it is developed by the Earth Federation Forces as part of its MS development program.)

I like the South Seas Alliance as a faction because they make sense in post One Year War world. Essentially a nearly post apocalyptic world, ravaged by the Operation British Colony Drop and subsequent Zeon invasion and Federation counterattack that reduced Humanity's total population to half. Half. The Federation would be exhausted, to the point they can't muster the resources to finish off the Zeon remnants not only in space, but on their own territory on Earth as well. Of course their grip would slip and splinter factions like the South Seas Alliance would form. The fact they use cobbled together salvaged GM and Zaku suits enhances this.

Just did a check, and wikis are on the fence. One says 2.5 bil, another says 5.6 bil. If memory serves, there's an official source that says 2Bil. That's out of a starting population of 27 billion. You're not off on the destruction part, though. Without the colonies, Earth could have quickly industrialized enough products to beat Zeon, thus Zeon wanted to make sure that didn't happen, so they tore up everything they could. Then there's the fact the war never really ended until the Federation wiped out the last NeoZeon stronghold on Mars over twenty years later. So yes, the Fedies had their hands full.

@@jinsetayinsei4146, The narration and various expository dialogue in the original MSG, and various other games and anime state that half the existing population of Humanity dies in the early stages of the OYW from WMD use, such as nerve gas released in colonies, colony drops, widespread nuclear weapons use, etc. This all starts to drop off after the Antarctic Treaty was signed, until it picks up again during the Delasz Rebellion and Gryps War.

It helps that everything in Thunderbolt is armed to the teeth, lacking only the proverbial kitchen sink. GMs with double shields, Zeon grunt suits manning high-powered stationary beam cannons used like sniper guns, a Gundam equipped to the max like the GMs. So why not the Acguys too?

Alot of ppl are missing this fact about the thunderbolt acguys... they were only 12 meters head to toe. They were smol boys the original acguy was a normal sized suit but the TB acguys might as well have been the acguy2 smaller faster dealier cant wait for them to be in gbo2 it's hard enough hitting normal suits in full bugout boogey let alone something almost half the size and just as fast or faster

Nobody makes aquatic MS quite like Zeon and that includes MS from alternate Gundam universes and other UC factions, too. I will admit the Dahle do look like they fill their role pretty well as surface patrol units.

Okay so this is something that's been bugging me for a while. I've seen a version of this part of Thunderbolt that doesn't include the part where the Acguys deploy those inflatable mines into the water and I can't figure out if that bit is something that was cut or elided from some version or not, it sounds dumb but for a while I was wondering if I'd misremembered it entirely. Are there two different versions of this scene then, one with that bit and one without?

There is the original OVA versions of Thunderbolt, then a movie release, the movies are very shortened, both for season 1(December Sky), and season 2(Bandit Flower).

The team gets away together and new attackers appear, so those two team members deploy those mines to secure theyre getaway.

ダーレ　フロート装備 ぱっと見ザニーにしか見えないが別機体である南洋同盟の機体、ダーレのフロートオプション装備機。 ジムやザクといったジオン連邦双方の大破、遺棄された機体を継ぎ接ぎする形で開発されており、そのため機体性能は低い。(ぱっと見見た目は統一されているが、恐らく中身は機体ごとにバラバラで、整備性も劣悪だと思われる) しかし一部の機体はジムのジェネレーターを流用したおかげでビーム兵器も使用可能、またジオン連邦双方の装備を使えるようにOSが整備されていたりと、侮れない。 フロート装備機は、腕部に魚雷を装備し、脚部フロートによって水上を滑走することが可能。その機動力は割と侮れないものになっており、ジオン水泳部を相手にある程度追撃できていた。 劇中では南洋同盟の機体が複数登場。ダリル達のアッガイ部隊を追撃するも、歴戦の猛者達、しかも本当の水泳部は流石に相手が悪く、機雷に引っ掛かり全滅した。
