It's so jarring because the entire game you just subconsciously assume this character is "you" and just exists as your fill in in the game world... but his behavior in the commercials kind of jolts you with "Oh wait, Stanley is a person?? Like an actual person??" And I love it so much EDIT: it also breaks the "We can hear the Narrator but Stanley can't, because we are breaking the fourth wall like the Narrator" theory that I never really understood to begin with. He addresses Stanley directly like... a lot.

This is one of the very few instances where we can see Stanley acting on his own free will. No input from the player, or the narrator. And he wants out. He's hiding in a dark corner of the building in an office that's not his own. Stanley's office is 427 and he is in office 002. That's 419 offices away, far from where the narrator would look. This part of the building is not even in the game. Stanley even put cardboard over the windows to try concealing himself and he dragged a water cooler into his office so he wouldn't have to leave for water and risk getting found. It also looks like hes been drinking a fuck ton of coffee, and of course he's trying to book a vacation out of this hell.

Also the first time I watched the trailer, I thought the Narrator was calling Stanley and Stanley was FOLLOWING the voice out the Exit like the Narrator was luring him into a trap... On second watch, it sounds much more like the Narrator is *full on sprinting down the corridor to catch Stanley before he escapes* and the thought of this disembodied voice eldritch creature sprinting invisibly down the hall after Stan is both hilarious and horrifying.

The broom closet ending was definitely the most emotional and expressive ending in the entire game. Honestly, I adore all the action and content within the ending. It must of tooken a long time to make. Easily the most emotional part of this ending was when the narrator started talking about Stanley's family. Brilliant! The ending was absolutely brilliant!
