Cleotha was one of the originals too. Yvonne just wasn't singing on records with them in the beginning because she was shy, but when Cleotha got married Yvonne stepped in and sung then stooped again until Pervis left for the military.

Gospel? Working song? Spiritual?
@april1969simnel4 жыл бұрын
They're singing about the Rapture. When I was a kid in the 70s, the old folks in my church led the singing, and this was one of the songs. Gospel is the genre of music and songs in that genre are called spirituals, but especially the old ones from before the days of recorded music. This song seems to be from a time after slavery. It's fast. Field hollers and worksongs had a slower tempo, to match the pace of work.

They made quite the transition over the course of their career. They went from Gospel to Secular Funk real quick. I guess there was a lot of money to be made!
@theleadshoes6 жыл бұрын
I would say it was gospel-flavored soul, and what better way to spread the word. After all, "I'll take you there" is about heaven.
@carlosrincon15514 жыл бұрын
N R you think they traded gospel for secular music? They never stopped playing gospel-you can never stop something that lives within you.
@JaySmith-wo3di4 жыл бұрын
Comments like this are annoying as hell. The message NEVER changed and were beyond deserving of the same amount of money awarded to other artists - which they still didn't receive.
