He mentions how two men getting married is strange to him, because in his day it was one man and one woman, BUT adds that he's getting on in years and things seem to have changed and left him behind, and he shouldn't/can't tell others how to live their lives. He clearly doesn't HATE gay people, he just doesn't understand it, at all. Once you get a higher heart level with him, he mentions later that you helped warm him up to the idea of gay marriage (like, for other people, he's obviously not leaving Evelyn) and he's happy that Alex found someone he's happy with, regardless of gender.
