From what i understand traits are the only thing that cannot be changed about a player, so that is what i would roll/shop for, everything else can be adjusted. Beginning stats don't matter at all for example. Hero Pool is nice to have, but past the very early stages of the game it's barely a consideration, speedrunning aside maybe. Match traits > Routine Traits though. While routines aren't unimportant as they translate into higher stats which translates into better game performance in general, higher stats are a matter of time, so actual mechanical impact on the game state is always preferrable imo. So, i mostly disregard anything related to "more fans", "more TP", anything related to breakthroughs and so on, simply becoming MVP and top athletes take care of that. Paradoxically THE standout routine trait might be "Idol Aura", potentially giving +100% stat xp in the lategame, but even midgame the increases are nuts in comparison to other traits, when even my worst player is pulling 40k fans simply from winning games. Other than that, scaling is good and anything related to strategy points can't be half bad, both in match traits and cards. Not a fan of "Take the initiative" though for example, it would be absolutely OP if it could be paired with Close out the game reliably, but the way it stands it triggers too early and capitalizing on a 3 turn death timer is probably not gonna happen. In general i think i'd avoid one time traits, they are too situational imo. Continuous effects, other than the ones that only trigger late in the game (round 70+) imo have a bigger impact. So, imo continous effects or refreshable effects > conditional effects > one time effects. Imo there are some really interesting traits that you can build around like Poacher for example. PS: As a random tip, consider using less cards, yes LESS. Being able to dictate the pace of the match at any given point is crucial and a few draws can open up a lot of opportunities. Going from 8 strategy points to 0 is rarely worth it unless you get multiple kills and a tower or significantly improve the next special fight imo. Instead, if the enemy team is at 3 strategy points, consider not going below 4, so you get to dictate the way they get their "turn". Conversely, on a 3 round death timer, that would mean that their heroes would respawn and they'd get to go again first, which might put you into a world of hurt, especially if a big fight is coming up. In the same vein, when preparing for a dragon fight for example consider first: Will the opponent go first ? As in, are they close to 8 strategy points and passing a round will let them go all out on you ? If not, pass a round, consider again. You can hold up to 10 strategy points (rule changes aside), so don't feel pressured to act at 8. Why does it matter ? Well, heroes need one round to retreat, so if you harrass heroes enough to make them retreat and the dragon timer is at 1, you basically gave your opponents a free heal, at 0 they will be forced to fight at whatever hp you left them. Ganking for a kill would be preferrable ofc. None of that is set in stone, but i think there's a lot of consideration here. Honestly i am suprised my self, how much nuance is in this game.

This was awesome to read! My next series is going to be on us making custom athletes with full hero pool unlocked and planning around specific play styles that I have found work well and I enjoy. Reading through this gave me some great talking points for that video and also made me realize some things I might have overlooked. I really appreciate you taking the time to write all this up! I’m excited to keep trying this game out and discovering more of the nuances with you! :)

@@HaleTales You're welcome ! I figure i got a bit carried away, especially given it was completely unsolicited advice, when initially i only wanted to point out that traits are immutable, lol. Sorry bout that, but i'm glad you found it helpful nevertheless. Looking forward to the vid and hearing more opinions on that one, since my word certainly isn't gospel ;)

Yo, you seem to be one of the few people that make videos on this game. I'm already learning a lot in the first couple of mins. Any chance you can make a new player guide or tips and tricks?

For sure! I’ll get an intro guide up and make more advanced ones for the later leagues.
