Salt glazed are made from rock salt. The kiln temperature is taken to 1400°F. Bricks are removed equally from the base of the kiln in four places. Salt is thrown in by the handfuls several times during the firing. The salt mixes with the air flow and melts onto the pottery giving it shine and an orange peel texture. The finer the salt, the smoother the finished glaze surface. This is done in a designated salt kiln as the interior is glazed in the process and can release again in the fire which will ruin the pottery of the standard glazing process.

Winterthur [winter tour] is actually a place in Switzerland but (as I just found out 😃) it's also a museum in Delaware and it sounds very interesting: "Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library is the premier museum of American decorative arts, with an unparalleled collection of nearly 90,000 objects made or used in America between about 1640 and 1860." The piggies with the nice faces are hence reproductions.

I was in an Antique Mall I Las. Vegas and there was a vendor that had their art stacked against the wall very neatly. I was surprised by how much they had. But it worked, I thumbed through and found a couple of pieces. What if you put some your artwork in your new booth, stacked neatly against the wall? Might help you sell through it…just a thought.

I live in Bennington VT where the pottery is. That Bennington “man with glasses” is a David Gil design. He comes in a couple different colors. They go for $800-1000

I was so excited to see the Czech pitcher at 14:39. I have the same one in my collection. It belonged to my husband’s Grandmother. She probably bought it the 50’s-60’s when she was living in Paris. I adore it.

Some great finds. Love the paper weights. Regarding your artwork that you need to sell, find a wall near your front windows of your shop and hang them to photograph. You'll get a lot of natural light and they should look lovely.
