Never going back to that city ever since I got shot at for literally no reason and one of my friend's got hit in the arm with a bullet... Really miss the old Portland it will never be the same again since the riots.

Wheeler has ran Portland into the ground. I have friends that live in the suburbs and they refuse to go into downtown Portland.

I think it has as much to do with Portland’s form of government as it does with Wheeler. The guy is not in complete charge of virtually anything that goes on. The buck stops somewhere but its a merry go round to exactly where that is.

How about making Oregon more film industry friendly so they stop filming shows in LA that are supposed to be based in Portland? How about we give incentives to hold business conferences here so there is more hotel and restaurant businesses nearby? All of the conferences that I used to go to Expo Center have disappeared. How about we distribute the money that is burying the cannabis industry in taxes with no results? No, just tax people more and punish homeowners by making them pay for everything with property tax so they can't afford to eat and lose their home. And we wonder why so many people are homeless. I'm sorry, I lost my job in tech and food has become one of my biggest expenses. I can't afford anymore free preschool or random bills attached to my property taxes. For having no sales tax we certainly tax everyone to the max on everything else.

This is the first time I’ve heard some sense in years. Almost 18 months ago, we fled Portland. We fled Oregon. The lockdowns protests insecurity homelessness weak leadership looting were too much to bear. I lived in Portland 30 years. My husband was a 4th generation Oregonian. I hope someday to come and visit and see change; not that city in shambles we left.

The solution to homelessness, is to house them. Not put them into 6 big fields and not address the actual issue

Agreed. We need to build affordable housing for those who wan’t to change their circumstances. We also need proper institutional space for those who can’t or won’t change. House them one way or another…

the solution to homelessness has nothing to do with providing them housing, it has everything to do with saying 'NO' to that 'chosen' lifestyle. a humane method to bring this about: no camping within 500' of schools what was put forth, enforce it no camping within 500' of 'any' building/structure no camping within 500' of 'any' sidewalk no camping within 500' of 'any' street effectively such a policy does 'not' ban camping but balances it with a civilized culture, which means the vast majority of folks who 'disavow' this 'chosen' lifestyle... Leftists must come to grips with the need for a carrot-and-stick approach, till that happens we'll stay with this proliferation of bums for a long long time. There are a lot of folks nationally who are working diligently to get this issue to the high court, once there maybe just maybe they'll leave it to the individual states as to how to deal with a 'chosen' lifestyle unbefitting of a civilized culture...
