You asked about someone who used the Ticket desk in Amsterdam. I have done that many times to upgrade my work trips with KLM When I travel for work I get economy class tickets from my employer (very stingy I think) But when I travel privately (with my wife) we always fly Buisness for trips over four hours . So I have a lot of points that I use in my business trips. The service at the ticket desk works superbly. Very friendly staff who always try to make the trip as comfortable as possible. They are just as good as the service desk at Qatar Airways, which I also fly with a lot.

I worked for KLM back in the 80's and 90's. Unfortunately, KLM has never been known for their catering. Usually bland and uninspiring. A pity, really. It is a great airline with a long history.

Used to fly KLM in the 90’s and liked it, until a phone rep gave me a hard time about using points to upgrade. Haven’t flown them since. The catering seems like it was better in those days. One time I asked if there was a seafood meal available in economy (there wasn’t one on the menu) and I was served a very nice halibut main course…..probably wouldn’t get that even in Business now.

KLM is a wonderful airline! I'm saddened by this video! When I became a flight attendant back in 2001 we would start with the soup/salad cart, followed by the main course. After the main course came the fruit and cheese cart where you can built your own plate. Finally, the ice cream sunday and warm dessert cart. Of course during the pandemic most airlines moved to a single tray service. But in recent months, United brought back ice cream sundays. I absolutely love KLM!! I've never had a bad experience. If KLM would allow you to build your own fruit/cheese plate, and offered a variety of desserts, this meal service would be perfect! On a side note, did I see TWO servings of undercooked quinoa?? What on earth??? That looked like a full meal instead of an appetizer.

I actually used the ticket desk quite a few times in the past few years - in Larnaca, Tel Aviv, Tirana, CDG, LHR, DXB and some others. It is usually a case of missed-flight, or some emergency that compels me to arrive at the airport on a moment's notice. They mostly do the job and I even managed to get some nice business class deals.

I almost only fly with KLM, but that’s mostly becuase I’m Dutch. KLM is my favorite airplane company though. Last year my dad and I flew to Peru for vacation, but we flew economy premium. But becuase my dad flew a lot for his work years ago he is Paltinum for Life at KLM. So when we entered the plane and went to our seats a lady came to us and greeted my dad by his full name and also gave us two business amenity kits!

Actually their new Business Class suite is the same as Air France's, with a different colour scheme. Seat and options look exactly the same to me, except the door is more sturdy on Air France.

Thanks, Dan. This is really helpful. I discovered that if you’re flying with KLM that day you can purchase entrance regardless of what class you’re flying in. That might also account for the crowds. I wonder how many people get free access via their status or ticket or pay to get in and are surprised to find there are extra charges for “premium” items.

Excited to see this video as booked on this plane from EDI to BKK via AMS next year and I love your videos. Have booked 1A (and 2A for partner) since first time I've had the opportunity to snag 1A. Return flight is on Air France via CDG but the KLM prices make it affordable for us to go business class - less than $3k return pp. That seemed good cash price to me for what is a 13 hr flight just AMS-BKK alone. They don't seem to pitching themselves against luxury of say Emirates or Singapore and I think there is a market for that especially if likely to be sleeping large part of the flight which I hope we will be. The food they served you looked truly awful although seen some 'better' reviews of the trio of delicacies regular LH meals on Flyertalk and other YT vids. Admittedly I booked knowing that the food on KL would prob not be on a par with AF and also that there are often mice in the non-Schegen lounge in AMS so not going in with high expectations on that front!

AMS - BKK is less than 11 hours, but still long though. Not sure you have experienced transfers at Charles de Gaules, but that is usually a nightmare with delays, a very bad lounge, long distances to the connecting flights and the unpleasant staff at CDG. Wish you well, you'll need it. :-)

Loved this review. I recently flew a long haul flight with KLM for the first time and had the same observations. The business class seat is comfortable but catering and service times were terrible! The meal took so long between apps, main course, and dessert. What are they doing back there?!

Great video! Catering looks mediocre to bad - all the reason to get to the Delta SkyClub at Chicago O'Hare (included in KLM Business Class) early at ORD, eat there, and sleep on the plane the entire journey (16:20 ORD -> 07:10 AMS). My outbound flight is next month. The flight from ORD to AMS is in either the 787-10 Dreamliner (which is where I booked my seat in December 2023) or the 777-300ER, so I might get the new seats!.

Had a flight with Wizz Air in 2018; was at airport just over an hour in advance and had priority check in (but also did a very large school group); we ended up missing check in cut off and couldn't fly no rebooking help. We tried to buy new tickets online with a different carrier but internet wouldn't corporate. We ended up buying a paper ticket at one of those weird non airline run desks. They quoted a price; we asked if they could match online they said sure. Neither the quoted price, 'matched' price or receipt price matched each other or what was charged to the credit card. We still got to our destination for what still ended up being quite a reasonable price for a last min ticket.

I could not agree more. My favourite airline for years, I tried to fly KLM whenever possible, but then things started to change. Chaos at Schiphol, especially the passport control when changing to/from a connection outside Schengen. The business class food got worse (just like in your video), you had to start paying for stuff in the lounge in AMS and business class prices exploded (I mostly flex to CPT in South Africa. In the end I moved to Emirates/Qatar/Turkish and Singapore Airlines.

Hmmmm! I had the privilege of flying KLM YYZ-AMS-YYZ on their 787-10 in November. Having flown AC, WS, and AF over the Atlantic, all in Business Class, I was blown away by the catering and service on KLM. Certainly it took me back to earlier times when we had real First Class. I don't know what happened on your flight but it certainly does not represent my experience with KLM. My future trans-Atlantic flights will be on KLM and yes, I enjoy collecting their Bols houses too.

Catering is one of KLMs main issues. Not just intercontinental but also within Europe. The boxed salad they offer on a 3hr flight in business class is an absolute disgrace.

My cousin works for a major international law firm and KLM, Lufthansa, British Airways and American airlines were all taken away as their preferred carrriera for various reasons. KLM was because of food issues, but also people were buying those houses and charging them to the company as an expense. One lady had 50 of them and most were duplicates. The catering was bad and made people sick supposedly. But at least they got where they were going on time. British Airways out of Heathrow...nope.

The little houses are given for free and you can choose yours, needs a little memory to not choose one you already have. Never been sick from their food. Sure Emirates meals are better but for almost dobble of the price for the business seat...

You mentioned the airvents - i flew to lhr-sin with singapore airlines on the boeing 777er, and i did find that the lack of individual air vents on this plane model quite unpleasant, I would much rather they kept the air vents, especially when hand luggage size is quite limited for me to know what temperature to expect on board, at least if I over dress i can still cool down. The other leg of my journey was with the Airbus a380 and I found that aircraft to be much more pleasant/comfortable - all economy class but still

The only time I had to use those ticket desks was when I accidently booked the wrong date. ICN-TPE. I thought I had bought a ticket for Feb 3rd, When I went to check in I'd booked March 2nd. 3/2 v 2/3...... luckily Korean Air were OK about it and I only had to pay $100 extra. @@benthompson6416Hey! Gotta disappoint you there :( In the years I’ve worked for KLM, I’ve only seen 2 or 3 free upgrades. We’re not allowed to give them out for free (only in rare occasions where the flights are overbooked in economy and there’s still seats available in other classes. But those free upgrades often go to frequent-flyers. We don’t get to decide who gets the upgrade, our system will give us some names.) Where are you travelling to though? And what date? (don’t tell me if you don’t want to) Maybe I’ll be there!

Had to use one of those desks because KLM had overbooked flight back to Bristol Airport and they tried to bump me off Created stink as I was travelling backwards and forwards each week working for KPN in Den Hague Told them to either get me on flight or put me up in the Sheridan 5 star at airport for 3 nights Strange I was on the flight rather quickly

The food i had was pretty good but i’m not vegan so that’s coming from a different perspective and i still feel like they should have the same amount of quality of food for everyone. Adding the economy class perspective. Long- and mid-haul meals are similarly terrible. But the short-haul sandwiches they provide are actually good. And it may be the last one standing European airline serving complimentary drinks even on short-haul (including alcohol).

Dan, we recently just flew LHR-BKK on KLM, In business. I was very excited, as they are one of my fav airlines. The food was shockingly bad, to the point where it bordered on inedible. The portions were also tiny tiny..I felt like KLM had put everyone on a low calorie diet, and assumed we were all vegeterian. It was disappointing to say the least.

I flew this route in J to DXB but they Qatared me so I had the 2-2-2. It was so bad and food was bad. I was in 2G but I was the 2nd last person to get their Delft houses and had to get their 2022 edition instead of the 2023 edition that I flew last year. I flew back from AMS -> ORD in Economy and the food was just as tasty. I have a flight AMS to YYZ in October, hoping to see if they've changed.

KLM needs to check out Middle Eastern Airlines Meal Presentation. Especially Oman Air, Etihad, Qatar, etc. If you, however, order Vegan food, you should not be too surprised that they have limitations to make this look or taste very special. Its still a separately cooked option, that they need to create just for you at any airport and they are probably not too happy about all these special requests.

Amongst the Dutch people I know who are premium passengers, they have always said they can trust KLM to get them there well, but if the product was better, they'll easily switch over to the other carrier.

I once bought a one way ticket to Bangkok in one of those ticket stands in Frankfurt after missing my connection due to late arrival from Oslo. Food looked really bad. Now I am the average Joe flying economy and have taken KLM quite a few times to Toronto. Food in economy has at times not been edible, it was that bad. Once I upgraded to business class from Bergen, Norway to Amsterdam. The breakfast served consisted on 5 different types of bread, all of them bone dry. The only good thing about KLM are their staff, especially on European routes. But if I can fly another airline but KLM I would always chose another airline.

One should always look for the positives in any situation. Many passengers probably pay full price for their tickets and may be delighted by the encouragement to diet when they see the positively appalling food. Everything else looked fine, although if you were paying top dollar then you might expect a slightly more upmarket décor.

KLM is a fantastic airline, very kind and easy going flight attendants! This video is a disappointment regarding food , when I became a flight attendant in the earlier years we served so much more choices in Class ! So yes the catering has to gets its act together!

As a Dutch person I’m often puzzled how bad the food actually is in the entire country. Trying to find a place where they offer hot dishes for lunch is almost impossible. Love klm but fully agree the catering is awful! We should leave that to the Belgians to be honest…..

i've never flown anything but economy so i'm wondering how the doors in business class work? like, if they are closed, do you still get meal service? or is it equivalent to a "do not disturb" sign at a hotel? just curious! also...are you allowed to make your bed flat and go to sleep at any time during the flight or do you have to wait until the seat belt sign is off?

Thanks for the question! The doors are mostly for privacy but if you are awake the crew just pop their head over and ask if you'd like to eat. As for the bed, you have to be upright for take-off and landing but as soon as the seat belt sign is off you can make it lie-flat!
