Hello! Thank you for hosting Hesther Cox Richardson. She is a disciplined histotian and fabulous storyteller! Her rich vocabulary entices her audience into actions of the past with both knowledge of the events and the wonderment of discovering them. She is a treasured voice in our time. People need to study not just our history, and I love history, but CIVICS. Americans need to start learning (again) how our government works, Congress, the presidency, the judiciary, federal agencies, state governments, federal and state offices and how they work. Even local governments. And above all the inordinately large role that money plays throughout our system.

HCR is such a huge huge resource. ~ A National Treasure ~ Always a deep dive into the mid 1800's. All her books are so full of details about pivotal events. Her insight continues. For me, I would say that there are no mistakes. Just a process that is part of the human condition. I like very much a book called "Constantines's Sword" (2001) James Carroll. Covering the development and reinforcement of "Christianity" with the foil of Judaism and use of the fascist tool box over the last 2000 years. A pretty consistent pattern.

I would not refer to the VP Kamala Harris as black, unless either of her parents have some percent of African lineage. Most of the people of India don't have any biological connection to Africa; but the opposite is more probable. However African Heritage is as rich as that of India and my salutations to our VP for showing fearless leadership and reverence for her boss who happens to be the POTUS. May she remain undaunted and cheerful all throughout her political life. America needs her leadership! I wish her great success! I pray that most of the African Americans wholeheartedly support her leadership and her runs for elected offices in the years to come.

During the 1980’s conservative talk radio primed the pump in propagandizing certain “others” knew better than we did what reality was/is regardless of any evidence to the contrary. This priming concerned me more than anything I’d seen up to that point. Rush Limbaugh in a certain sense led the way. And although he occasionally told his audience that his radio show was entertainment, not reality, people believed he was telling them facts due to how real he made his commentary sound. My concern was that in spite of these so called ‘know it all experts’ sometimes admitting to listeners what they were yammering about was fake and the fact it was easily ascertained as fake, many listeners were willing to believe it and operate inside extremism and conspiracies as if they were real. Therefore they convinced themselves and others that they needed to think and take action without confronting what they were subscribing to, but more than just subscribing to - rabidly supporting and building lives around. And here we are today. It took a few decades and many more liars actively and ridiculously promoting the lies to get America to the precipice of choosing a reality that doesn’t exist (other than in their convoluted psyches) vs one that does exist, thereby garnering enough support to lead those who have faithfully become lemmings to the cliff edge in which their own existence and that of the United States is at risk of annihilation. They do believe their own rhetoric sufficiently towards ending it all. There you have it: the fear I had in the ‘80s realized based upon what has come to pass much more fully now. And when a large number go over the cliff, many more are in tow against their will, homicide casualties in a suicide mission not of their choosing. So, yes, the few crazies cannot lead the rest of us. Since I’m a sensitive intuitive, I’ll offer what I see for the future: us in large numbers taking the reality of life into all facets more and more and never looking back on the false reality that gained momentum with nearly half of the populous, other than looking back historically.

I see lots of positive responses to this interview and my question is 'What action will you take as a result?' Here's a suggestion: there are lots of book clubs in the US--if you liked this interview, join a book club, start a book club or get this book on your book club's list. Do it soon, so that you can choose what you are going to do in 2024 to make a difference in the election outcome in your area in November.

*Election winners make the laws, set the punishments, and shape the judiciary.* So campaign, support, and for Democrats. The only poll that matters is election day. If you hear a poll you don't like, then keep sharing this, "Democratic values are better than Republican values. The only poll that matters is election day." Democrats value the rule of law, freedom, service, respect, sharing, strength, and unity. I vote Blue!

What is Heather’s view on the right wing influence being driven by religious leaders who seem to want to roll back history and promote authoritarianism and White Christian Nationalist leanings? This scares me but then religion scares me too. I think anything that asks me to “have faith” in something that is devoid of facts and loaded with wildly fanciful and often horrifically cruel acts is mind boggling.

Coverage by the media is terrible when it comes to giving context to daily news. Pointing out that something is not normal is seen as "leaning left?" Touting the newest news as interesting without pointing out how outrageous (Trump) it is makes for very uninformed viewers and irresponsible journalism.

HCR seems to be so enamored with the "beautiful idea" of popular democracy that she is unable to see its demise. I understand the infatuation. Most Americans have been mesmerized by its fundamental brilliance. It truly IS a beautiful idea. But only that - an idea. The reality is another thing altogether. Her blind worship of the IDEA, clouds her perception and assessments.
