1. Good to see you, 2. Honestly would love to see OCG rarity formatting come TCG side. I remember having cards like 101, or Felgrand having different prints, and it being exciting getting a ghost rare. And it does allow for the high rarity fans being able to get their shiny cards, but the more casual side doesnt have to donate a kidney for a feindsmith core.

At this point, I feel like i am ready to let competitive yugioh go. It pains me because I have been playing in tournaments for over 10 years now. But recently I catch myself raging about the game more often than not. And when I play tier 2-3 decks with friends at home, it’s the only place where that magic strikes again. Back and forth, having a good time, duking it out through some very niche and techy options everone made to their decks. I love that and i feel like the way Konami tries to elevate profits by manipulating sets so the official formats become more and more one-sided and pricey, you just have very few good duels in official events. I hope they can change sth but I highly doubt it at this point!

Playing yugioh pro with friends using meme/soup decks is fun as hell. Fabled Obelisk Turbo vs Wetlands Beatdown. Fossil Trimids vs Uria trap fever. Sphinx Archetype Is No Dream vs Kairu-Shin, Umi, and sea monster soup. Badly Made Labrynth vs Badly Made Jinzo. Summoned Skull vs Toons. Des Koala Turbo vs Ojama Armed Dragon. Spell-less formats, extra deck-less formats, meme deck potluck roulette, 3 draw, 60 card, 12000 life point extravaganzas, and more. The problem with yugioh is playing yugioh the way Konami intended.

I would love to continue playing regardless of the lack of prizing, if I could actually afford to play. And if I’m putting up THAT kind of money and taking it to the next level, I feel like I should have a better reward. It’s hard to find motivation to play when the nearest locals is an hour away and none of my friends go to that locals. Nor even live in the same state. I know Yugioh has always been expensive but I feel like there’s always been a roughly budget option but lately there hasn’t been. And if there is they kill the deck really quick.
@GwynoftheMist5 ай бұрын
The problems with Yugioh become apparent when you play a different card game. Digimon Card Game combining the Japanese / Western release schedule for product, the prizing of Pokémon/Lorcana, the alt arts of like every other game that aren't just a new foiling. Yugioh drops the ball so much not adapting and chasing that $$$

Flesh and Blood is kind of like Yu-Gi-Oh but with actual restrictions, and Pet decks are actively encouraged. Just two days ago, a Japanese player, Shoma, won Flesh and Blood Pro Tour Amsterdam with Uzuri, a deck he's been using since the beginning and wasn't considered meta. When starting Flesh and Blood, the advice is usually to play what you find interesting rather than play the best deck because skill in a deck can trump meta in this game. LSS and James White behind FaB also communicate a ton with the player base; they speak and explain ban lists and actively promote in-person play and local game stores. They support tournament play with actual cash prizes. Basically, LSS does what Konami doesn't.

Absolutely agree on the point regarding multiple rarities of the same big cards in core sets. Greater accessibility of the best cards could fuel the secondary market whilst higher rarities sought after by collectors would drive retail. Players ive met who think otherwise tend to be those who can afford to buy into decks like snake-eye fiendsmith. They fundamentally believe that not forking out for the best game pieces is a choice made by bad players, and that facilitating the ability to obtain those pieces would ruin the competitive nature of the game as well as its primary and secondary markets.

Another big problem with Ygo is that it doesn't feel like Konami really listen to the community so much, either about the format or events n stuff. People have been aggressively against T0 decks since forever, but particularly against T0 engine even harder since Tear came out. We are now coming into a second format in a row with a T0 deck in.

Ever since 2022 PotE the game has been a shitstorm, Sprights, Tears, Kashtira, some breath of fresh air in Age of Overlord (in deck diversity, but not in power level for the top decks), but followed by Snake Eyes and now Fiendsmith, there's no space for anything else. My locals started to get serious about decks since Age of Overlord with Tier 1 decks which pushed me off from tourneys since I only use rogue and junk decks, and now I don't get to play at all with games ending in two to three turns with my opponent comboing during 15 to 20 minutes in order to finish the game fast.

It just makes no sense. If money is the bottom line, why not make these changes. I will never fork out the money to buy a core set. I just can't justify that money for 2 secret rares - UNLESS it's like RA01 and every pack is different, "filler" cards are interesting/retro format, etc. On top of that, they don't even take full advantage of being months behind the ocg. They cant reprint cards like dragion and first movement solo on time, and thus I can't buy them from them? Give me a break. So fed up with the game atm. (Good to have you back though).

I needed a deck upgrade, which fiends, SP, princess, ans others, was gonna cost me... ~£400+. Sure, i dont have to buy the meta cards, but if i dont, I've got very little chance at winning at LOCALS. Never mind regionals and more. Not falling into this trap again, i made the switch to Pokemon. I've just bought an entire meta deck, staples, etc... for 65 quid. That doesn't even cover the cost for one fiendsmith card. I love the yugioh game. But im not contributing to konamis profits anymore without some more give from them.

For stuff based on different rarities reminded me of a thought I’ve had forever. If I can use cards from different languages (I.e. German cards in an English deck) and not even have to use a full deck of cards in that language. I don’t get why I can’t just use a full deck of OCG cards. If they are different card stock so I can’t use individual cards fine but I can’t think of why I can’t use a full deck. Especially with Neuron being a thing for translation.

The OCG has to do the multi-rarity angle because of how competitive the card scene is there. If they "reject" the casual player/collector with a Eat a Week or buy a Card paywall, they have a multitude of options to migrate to. They can't let them go. In the TCG people pay the horrible prices (to buy cases for 2 copies of the best card), so they keep doing it.
@AlintheaYoh5 ай бұрын

Sweet another video! Its a shame that Yugioh hasn't changed much from back in the day, its similar to how it was with Sega in the 90s. Konami really needs to let USA/EU departments be more lenient with the game because its not fair that OCG gets better treatment than the TCG.
@erichindy86885 ай бұрын
In Canada engravers are going for over $100 a copy and the QCSR is over $300 .. they really should try adapting the OCGs layout when it comes to core sets. Even if it's just for one set to test it and see how well it does. If engraver was ultra rare instead it would have been a little bit easier to get and not as expensive on the secondary market. We dont want all of the chase cards more accessible but when a format basically revolves around 1 card and it's a secret rare thats something we dont want.

Compettive Yugioh lost all point for me by the end of 2020, besides crossing off a “Before I die” on my bucket list which was to top a locals. After TOSS, the game has been in shambles. The gap between casual/budget and pro players is farther than it’s been since Nekroz 2015.

One of my biggest pet peeves about ygo ATM is that the language around talking about decks changed so drastically. Decks these days always talk about "engine" this and "engine" that. It's weird to think of a whole archetype simple as an engine the makes a deck run. People literally splash multiple archetypes of decks together and call them engines that just make the whole deck just make the same boss monsters that everyone is already making. It's like an illusion of unique deck building when everyone arrives at the same (or similar) 5 negate boards.

Some issues I've seen are they're pumping out far to many cards locked at certain rarities then also leaving the game stale for people not looking to drop 300+ on newest decks we go way to long inbetween banlists and the power creep is just insane. Prize support is ass and communication is damn near extinct
@digitalstatictv5 ай бұрын
...I'll be that guy. If we're going to continue at this rate, we need cash prizing. Point blank. With the current rate of thousand dollar dominant strategies and engines it's gotta be that level of prize support. Don't know what Takahashi would say about the predatory business model. As seemingly everyone has stated though, so many issues (at every level of the chain) are fixable with the OCG model. Seems like they're almost dependant on resellers now, and ratios can't be good for them either.

It worked for me, but I haven’t touch a booster pack since 2018, and definitely after Master Duel released. I love the game, me and my friends pass time with the back and forth games, rather than the “you don’t pay, you don’t play” thing that Master Duel’s ranking matches has been.

@NaNa_W4NT5_F3MNM55 ай бұрын
I personally disagree with the idea that Yu-Gi-Oh doesn't need cash prizes, at least for their biggest tournaments, I feel like they should have it. Decks are already worth hundreds of dollars, and since the meta decks usually change multiple times a year, to get into competition, you have to shell out perhaps close to a thousand dollars a year, maybe more depending on the decks. *cough* snake-eyes *cough* Also, not everyone has the time to go to big events especially now that players are mostly adults now with careers, hell some can barely make up time to go to their LGS, so cash prizes can be a good incentive. Also, isn't the story that cash prizes being rejected because of Takahashi sensei, unconfirmed? I'm looking for sources about that, but I find none, most of what I find is Shueisha saying no without any specification if Takahashi has anything to do with this. Anyway, even if that was true, that makes sense for LGS events, but when you start hosting a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP for it, I feel like that logic no longer works. Sure, they get prize cards, but doesn't it kind of suck to have to sell the prize card that you won to not be in the red. Flesh and Blood Pro Tour Champion Shoma a few days ago, won $50000 AND gets to keep his prize card.

Rarity collection 1 was a smash hit because the cards were great and you had a really good chance to pull what you wanted, and even if you didnt pull what you wanted, the price of singles wasnt ridiculous and you had a pretty high chance that you could sell or trade what you did pull to get the cards you actually wanted because they didnt cost 150 dollarydoos each
