It's a beautiful memorial. The rock and roll touch with the records and the individual name markers looking like stage monitors is fitting for a memorial for rock fans.

I live in Warwick so this is not too far from my home. Many of us Rhode Islanders have forgotten already, but this monument is always here to remind us whenever we see it, to not make those same mistakes again

I wouldn't say forgotten as much as there is a new generation of young adults out there now who were really too young or perhaps not even born yet when the fire took place. I'm 35 now and I was 15 when this happened and a regular local news watcher since I didn't have cable and I'm probably one of the younger people who still recall this disaster without actually personally knowing someone who perished in it. I know your comment was 4 years ago, but for what its worth, Great White was scheduled to play at Mohegan Sun close to the 20th-anniversary date of the fire and it still caused a local outcry to postpone the show. Great White hasn't played Rhode Island since and I don't think they'd be welcome anywhere in the state today in 2023. I don't believe they have even played Massachusetts either since the fire. I think everyone who was around remembers, its just eventually we have to move on, but I know for a fact that if GW tried booking a date in Rhode Island there would probably be protests and a lot of negative comments on social media towards the venue that booked them. I doubt any local club would go anywhere near that.

Thanks for this. Surreal to see what was once a location where people were supposed to just have a good time, as a brief escape from the difficulties of work, school and other things. And now its a memorial site for a horrible tragedy.

I went there for the first time a few days ago. Very somber and sad. There was an older woman sitting in front of one of the victims stone and was talking to her daughters picture. Very very sad.

I will echo most everyone else's comments - thank you very, very much for even thinking to do a video like this and uploading it here for all to see! I am too far away to be able to visit where my friends died, and this is about as close as I will get. It's very much appreciated. May they sleep in peace...

It’s a beautiful memorial. I know there is the one step dedicated to the survivors, but it seems like there should at least be a plaque listing their names as well. While they didn’t die in the fire, their lives were forever changed by the negligence of others.

Well maybe that could occur in the future. I think it took a lot of pulling just to get this remembrance site constructed. From what I understand, the building and land before the fire was due to be sold.

Kudos and high praise to the reginal benefactors and all contributors to this beautiful and dignified memorial. It is brilliantly designed and provides mediation and information for the visitor and communicates the sacredness of the space and the enormity of the loss. It may provide some degree of mercy and closure to the family and friends of the fallen in this hard working American community.

This is a beautiful place...a place where loved ones can come to reflect and hopefully find peace...memorials are erected to honor those that lost their lives so they would not have died in vain...my wife was killed in a motorcycle accident 7 yrs ago...there is a motorcycle memorial in Ohio called Motorcycle Memorial Foundation...my wife's name is inscribed on that wall...it reminds me of the Vietnam Memorial in Wash DC...RIP to those that left us too soon...

I think a lot of us feel that way about a lot of things. They say things happen for a reason, no matter how terrible they may be. Rest in peace to those that passed and may peace come to those who lost part of their family that night.

If there is any place on earth that could be haunted, with the tragic event that night....I'm thinking this location that holds so much pain and heart ache may have a few spirits roming around.

Thank you for this video..That is a very lovely and touching tribute to those who lost their lives that night. Although, I don't understand the need for a timeline that size with some of the backstory of Great White and other club fires included? What the hell is this? some sort of contest? Personally, I find it very unnecessary to tell the story of the band's history. Instead, shouldn't that building been better suited to have letters and pictures from all the family members and loved ones of the victims ? I'd rather see that, than a fairly large structure paying some sort of odd tribute to the band/manager/club owners who inadvertently killed them.

A new Station Fire Memorial Park was unveiled yesterday in remembrance of the Station nightclub fire that occurred in West Warwick, RI, on February 20, 2003. The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of 100 people. According to the Providence Journal, the new park features 10 circles of 10 monuments, each inscribed with the name and a portrait of community.nfpa.org/community/nfpa-today/blog/2017/05/22/station-fire-memorial-park-unveiled-at-dedication-ceremony-yesterday-in-west-warwick-ri May 22, 2017

Thank you for sharing, Majesty! I saw in photos released at the time of the park's opening that there was an error on one of the timeline tiles. It stated that only 355 people were in the club when the fire broke out. The official number was at least 459. I wrote two e-mails to the foundation but heard nothing back. Was the error ever fixed?

Finally complete. The closest thing to 'closure' as we will ever get - if there can ever be closure from such an event. Just curious about 1:30 the stenciling on the round benches resembles the little adaptors placed inside 45rpm records to play them on a standard record player.

Jack Russell is a performer I know everyone wants to blame someone and I get it but imo he’s been as humble and respectful as possible. He’s not the one to blame here
@majestyytsejam
@majestyytsejam 3 жыл бұрын
He is one of those to blame maybe not solely, but he was not "innocent" in this tragedy. There are a lot of people to blame for this terrible tragedy. The shame is only one person really stepped forward and accepted responsibility and that was Dan Biechele, the tour manager who set off the pyrotechnics. And in the grand scheme of things, he was the least responsible as demonstrated when families of victims (both who died and those who survived and were injured) wrote letters of support for him and said they think he was a "scapegoat" for the entire tragedy. It was the people that ALLOWED this tragedy to happen that are responsible. Jack Russell does bear some responsibility. Was it intentional? Of course not, but it was his band and his decision of how to conduct his band and in this case, using pyrotechnics was part of it. But also the Fire Marshall that never "noticed" the flammable foam on the wall who also increased the capacity of the Station at least twice, or the club owners for buying and installing the cheaper flammable foam and for not having fire extinguishers accessible or for allowing way more people than the legal capacity or allowing the use of pyrotechnics in their club in such a dangerous place. There was evidence of at least 10 other performances of artists that had performed there with pyrotechnics prior so their baseless claim "they didn't know or agree to it" was a lie. And also the bouncer who once the fire started would not let people out the band door. There is a lot of blame, some more than others. This really is one of the worst tragedies ever, not just because of the life lost and injured but for the fact that no one truly was help responsible. There was never a trial. 100 people perished and not a single person was tried for that specifically. The club owners pled no contest and let their insurance policy pay the maximum and then they filed bankruptcy, the Fire Marshall could not be held responsible because of regulations in the town so he wasn't even seen in court, same with the band I.E. Jack Russell, his insurance policy (with a maximum payout of 1 million dollars) didn't face any criminal charges whatsoever. The entire thing was very sad. I by no means consider myself an expert but i have done lots of research on this including reading the books that have been written and seen and read almost all of the police reports, witness statements etc. This tragedy really hit home for me. That's why visiting and playing my respects meant so much to me. It was all i could do to honor those who were taken that night.
