Valve changed the handheld PC scene back when they announced the original Steam Deck and whilst I loved the original Steam Deck, there were some flaws, mainly the terrible LCD screen, huge bezels and awful backlight bleed. The Steam Deck OLED fixes that and so many other issues the community had with the original Steam Deck.
The Steam Deck OLED is more than just a drop-in OLED replacement screen, it's now 90Hz, HDR capable, up to 1000nits brightness, faster RAM, better triggers, buttons, joysticks, haptics, speakers, up to 50% more battery life, the list just goes on and on. This is a true revision.

I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with any version of the Steam Deck. Whether you want the cheapest option, you’re still getting a great product. Want more storage/etched glass and just to work out of box? Go for it. There is no wrong Steam Deck. Buy and enjoy. But yes I did sell my 256gb LCD and upgrade to the OLED LE lol.

@@harmonised8353yeah the addition of the etched glass on the higher storage options is strange to me. There are a plethora of quality etched glass screen protectors out there if one wanted that, so im not sure why the “premium” option is the more limited option.

I have been running mine continuous and after my first testing, I felt the heat bellowing out from the vent... I soon learned the button layout dialing in PERF limits OTF, I don't see why you couldn't play for 10-12 hours on average games at 30 fps with a 3-5w TDP. This system is legit better than I thought it would been and far more useful at things I never expected to get to play at better than they're ever looked! Morrowind, Oblivion, FALLOUT New Vegas... All games that were pretty much written away into early obsolescence far, far before their time because of Microsoft's shoddy OS rollouts!

I been enjoying the oled model. It is worth the upgrade but I was also happy with the LCD. The price cut on LCD models is a great introduction to nw comers that are interested in the steam deck. So all around it's a win/win for valve. I been playing ps5 remote play over the weekend and it's pretty good!

I just got mine and I didn't get the Samsung panel... I got the Steam Deck LE and I don't usually like etched glass, but it does look really good. I run screen protectors too (when it arrives 🤔), doesn't matter, but I really like it! Dude, I like it for playing Morrowind and FALLOUT New Vegas with the TDP ≤ 5!? You have got to kidding me, I've been considering running my old lost planet install too! This system is best at making the best games from 10 to 20 years ago look like retooled with a facelift! My old system for FALLOUT New Vegas was an Intel Extreme QX6700 and to 8800 GTX in SLI, I built that PC for $4,000 and it's pushing far beyond how good original hardware can make it look! HDR is really amazing, it's just the premium emulator and last get console destroyer while playing modern games like the Witcher 3 NG and looking amazing! Valve has made Windows obsolete imho with the Steam Deck OLED... The OS is seamless and flawless in bypassing the need for Windows! This unit will bring the reckoning of Windows!

@@nils0603 that's true, I'm new too, but because of an anti cheat thing, you can't play any call of duty made after 2019 unless you install windows on the system itself or a micro SD card

@@nils0603 same thing with me, I have mw3 on my ps5 but want to be able to play it anywhere, I'll be watching videos tomorrow on how to install windows on the deck, I saw a video about a week ago with windows 11 installed on the steam deck and mw3 was getting between 35 and 40 fps and was getting almost no lag, that was on the Oled though so I don't know if the older RAM chip on the LCD steam deck would make a difference but it made me want to eventually do it

I got the 1TB model...screen is awesome etched glass and all. I have a backlog of games lol but I did try out my fav which is The Witcher 3...mind blowing and GOW also mindblowing....then I played Hades and Vampire survivors....battery kept me going for like 4 hours ...no not kidding. Right now I'm hopping between games like there's no tomorrow. BTW I downloaded Decky loader, vibrant deck you can take the saturation up to...well whatever you like but 130 is the sweet spot, colours really pop. Oh forgot to mention I had the 64 gb model which I sold for 200 euros....not bad at all.

The Steam Deck OLED is... what the original Steam Deck should have been. Nobody should be using LCD for portable screens anymore, and that includes Nintendo. Sony got it right with the original PS Vita all the way back in 2012, yet major companies since then (including Sony bizarrely enough) have been putting LCD screens in their handhelds.

Now the only complaint I have is it takes so long to install certain games and some games don’t. I can say I’m happy with my purchase

I recomend ppl try 45 fps, i was having performance issues on emulators but did not want to go 30 fps because it still felt jarring so i tried going for 45fps. And wow it was a massive upgrade from 30 fps to the point i stopped caring its not running at 60 fps.

For me, I’m a dad and so far only played on Xbox , I want to play MW3 (and maybe games like God of war, red dead redemption) but not use our TV so I can still sit with my wife and kid So if I don’t bother much about playing on the go or playing certain other games, would you recommend the Lenovo or the Steam deck OLED for that purpose? I just ordered the Steam deck 1TB OLED but after understanding that it might be an issue to play MW3 On the Steam deck due to anti cheat , I’m thinking about getting the Lenovo instead Any input is highly appreciated

You're lucky to have gotten GTA 1&2 on Steam! I never used Steam back in the day because I've not had access to high speed internet, not until last year with Starlink! Now, I can download games like the Witcher 3 in less than an hour and a half. GTA in the 90's was the best!

Im dying for a handheld as i grew up on handhelds and ive been struggling to play on my desktop as im sick of sitting at a desk but the steam deck OLED is literally more expensive than a PS5 ... id buy the oled right now if it was like 300 but 500 for a kit that struggles to hold 30-40 fps in low setting feels like id be making a massive mistake .. im waiting on the next monster hunter coming out and im doubting the steam deck will be able to run it.. so on the fence whether or not to buy one.

Imo I love the Steam Deck OLED but the Steam Deck 2 needs to be modular and more portable. It’d be cool if we can switch form factors whenever. For example, gamepad (SD1) or clamshell (SD2). The controllers would definitely have to be removable.

It has a definitely better screen. Try a rgb color test in the lcd one. It's really bad. But still not worth the upgrade because of the same performance.

It is worth it. Older games run EVEN BETTER. The old screen held back what the APU is capable of. GTA V runs better on this thing than it ever did on PS4 or Xbox. 90hz and OLED is huge. Doom 2016 is gorgeous and runs awesome. You speak of what you know nothing of.

I love mine!! I ordered the LE and it’s much lighter at 620g! That’s lighter than the rog ally’s “advertised” 630g. The screen is amazing, the battery life is much improved, and the fan noise…is almost switch like now. This is by far the best handheld in the market now imo.

You absolutely can! I have a 512GB MicroSD in mine currently. Upgrading the drive really isn't that hard but it does require a lot more steps than just inserting a MicroSD!

All comments from Valve suggest 2 years from now. They said they want to follow the typical console refresh cycle.

Valve said they estimate 2-3 years from now, they've actually said they want to wait for the technology to have significant performance gains before making a true successor. I'd highly recommend the OLED in the meantime!

I got glossy screen and anti-glare screen. The glossy screen looks better than the anti-glare screen because of brightness and clarity and color.The glossy screen looks brighter than the anti-glare screen and more clarity and saturation.

you know why the performance went up is cause the apu still uses the same 25 watts of power and due to it being more power efficient means that performance would go up a bit plain and simple to use all 25 watts of power it makes total sense because of that one to be more efficient then the 7 nm apu it would either use less power or have higher performance ceiling due to the higher efficiency of the newer chip
