it feels like the steelers are stuck in an endless loop that can only be stopped by getting a top 10 qb or firing tomlin. maybe thats just my take tho
@Coolthings246Ай бұрын
Yeah this is a weird situation. Tomlin is a good coach but not good enough it seems, which makes it hard to fire when he’s a future hall of famer, but because the team is never bad they never draft any great QBs, which leaves free agency the only realistic option, but then you gotta balance the cap with all your great players, plus not many good QBs available, and you have yourself a very weird and tough spot to be in.

Tomlin HAD a top ten QB his entire Career, and he had some of the most talented offenses on paper one could imagine and still was mediocre with them, I do once remember him accidentally winning the wildcard round with the Top # QB in the league, THE BEST WR in the league a TOP RB in the league, THE BEST if not then TOP 3 Offensive lines in the league and a score of players to compliment them Killer B's and definitely a Good ENough defense to at least get us to the big Dance, Hell i think that year Mike almost accidentally beat the patriots too. Which he hasnt done not even ONCE while Brady was starting, Shit Mike couldn't even beat the Patriots last Year against Bellichick when they were like 3-12. Tomlin has hit his ceiling as a coach YEARS AGO. he is NOT getting any better. he is NOT. he STILL fumbles the game clock and time outs, STILL AFTER !% YEARS HE STILL GETS ALL JUMBLED AND BRAIN DEAD with clock management.

Steelers haven't been a competitive team since 2018. And unfortunately because the ownership will not catch up with the league of being "offense-driven", they will continue in mediocrity for the foreseeable future. Major choices will need to be made to change this organization back into a real contender, starting with "retirement" of the head coach. Nothing else will change until this first part is accomplished. "Never having a losing season" is not the Standard I remember since the 1970s
@cguzelli129 күн бұрын
I remember 1968 where we went 2-11-1 and then when it couldn't get any worse, we went 1-13 in 1969, Noll's first season. STATISTICS: Pittsburgh has had only 3 coaches in 55 years. Two of the three, Noll and Cowher are in the HOF and my prediction is Coach Tomlin will be there one day. The "Standard" remains the standard, but Coach Noll 's winning percentage at .566% is far worse than Coach Tomlin at .630%. Are saying that Noll is mediocre, too? Did he meet the standard after the 1970's when he missed the Super Bowl 11 years? Mike Tomlin is currently in 11th place all time related to career wins. 11th place out of 531 men who are/were head coaches of an NFL team. The only coaches to have a higher winning percentage than Mike Tomlin (.630%) are Shula, Halas, Belichick, Reid and Lambeau. That's pretty good company to keep and this year, Coach Tomlin has 18 consecutive seasons without a losing record. Only Tom Landry (21 and 2 Super Bowls) and Bill Belichick (19 and 6 Super Bowls) are ahead of Tomlin (18 and 1 Super Bowl win and 1 loss). The stats are hardly mediocre, in fact the opposite. We came within a fumble of winning a second Super Bowl under Tomlin, but Clay made a great play to cause the fumble. It has been near impossible to dominate / dynasty when free agency has broken consistency of same men playing together. The Patriots wouldn't have either but Tom Brady showed that he had more impact than his Coach Belichick that made that Dynasty possible. STAT: Of multiple appearances in Super Bowls, the Steelers have the highest Super Bowl win percentage: 8 appearances (6-2) while the Patriots have appeared 11 times in the big game but only won 6 and lost 5 times for a .545% winning percentage. Both Dallas and San Francisco also had 8 appearances but are 5-3 for a .635% winning percentage. Most teams would love to have a coach like Mike who consistently gets more out of his players than other coaches. The last two games it's obvious the timing was/is off between Russ and George.
@mysteriousj3019Ай бұрын
I'm not a bengals or cowboys fan, but both those teams got a lot of shit for hanging on to bad-mid head coaches like Marvin Lewis and Jason Garrett for too long. Tomlin has locked the Steelers into perpetual mediocrity. You KNOW you're gonna make the wild card and get beat, if not blown out. At the same time, you can't get a better draft pick because all Tomlin has to do to keep his job is get 10 or 11 wins. When you have to hope that Justin Fields or the ghost of Russel Wilson will save your offense, it's not great. Unfortunately, Steelers ownership and management have shown they're okay with perpetual mediocrity. Fans who think that if you aren't totally delusional "StEeLeRs gO SuPeRbOwL" that you're defeatist or not a real fan will always be there. Just sleep well knowing you were right.

The offense has been trash since Todd Haley was not retained. It will continue to be trash as long as the Steelers keep valuing offensive coordinators who rely on antiquated and predictable schemes. The team had a chance to sign Kliff Kingsbury or Klint Kubiak, but instead, they hired an offensive coordinator who is just a slightly improved version of Matt Canada. There was a lot of media hype surrounding the Arthur Smith hire, but he’s been underwhelming in Atlanta. His success in Tennessee was largely due to Derrick Henry carrying the load.

I said 5 years ago that the Steelers should've fired Mike Tomlin. All the drama going on with Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown during that time made me think Tomlin either never had control of or lost control of the team and locker room, and as the head coach, I expected him to step in and figure out how to redirect that team. Also, that pick Ben threw where he blamed AB for running thw wrong route on his radio show, but still threw the ball. It all just read as Tomlin letting the players do whatever the hell they wanted. That really soured me on the Steelers ever having a great culture and identity for the foreseeable future. Not to mention, everytime the camera would pan to Tomlin during games, he always looked like he had no clue what was going on, especially when mistakes were made or penalties were committed.

I dont see what Playing the reest of the games this season to win woould have gotten us except more film for our opponents to watch on us, using plays that we have been keeping close to our chest all season long, using players like Mike Williams that we have given onnly 5 targets to all season long for a 5th round pick? I think that playing to win, and showing our hand to the rest of the teams in the afc playoffs that we have already showed a good portion of plays on film and have beaten, just to stay in the same seed and have ONE home game in the playoffs? and then what, if we win then the rest are on the road? Id rather prepare and not have a bunch of games that we are gutting out risking injury to, just to satay in the 3rd seed. NO THANKS! especia;l;y after that fucing schedule of having 3 games packed topgether in 10 days. Fuck THAT mess. I say play Vanilla ball and IF we win then yeah we win but I aint trying to kill ourselves this late in the season just toplay a team that we would have been playing anyway, but in a different stadium, and to have a better story for that shitty ass " In Season " Hard knocks AFCN special where they fucked us all over with that schedule. We did what we did to secure a seed, killing ourselves during that schedule of no rest just to keep that seed? FUCK THAT, id rather have my squad healthy than Killing themselves and then going straight into the playoffs like the Ravens did, and potentially the Bengals depending on who wins what. I havent seen where anyone stands in a few weeks. ut I do know that The ravens had to kill themselves just to get where they are at, thats no rest picking lower in the draft next year, more injured players, playing the same team they would have played if they lost, just at our stadium and as i said, they can take the home field advantage. We'll take the mediocre output ensuring that nobody gets hurt, and letting the ravens think they have finally figured out the blueprint on how to beat us.

I think the Steelers are just trapped in the past, they have the mentality of a team that just won the Superbowl and they just need to work out some shakes when it's been 15 years now since they've even been there, 16 since they've won. 16! Thats the difference between the Steel Curtain era and Buffalo four straight Superbowls era. But the Steelers act like 2010 was just last year. Bill Belicheck was let go after a few years of decline, but the Steelers? 20 years of "meh" at best and nothing has changed. And nothing will change, because they dont want to change

Of the three Coaches, Coach Tomlin leads in winning percentage. Coach Noll 's winning percentage at .566% is far worse than Coach Tomlin at .630%. Are the Steelers mediocre or a leader? STAT: Mike Tomlin is currently in 11th place all time related to career wins. 11th place out of 531 men who are/were head coaches of an NFL team. The coaches who have a higher winning percentage than Mike Tomlin (.630%) are Shula, Halas, Belichick, Reid and Lambeau. That's pretty good company to keep. Mike Tomlin has 18 consecutive seasons without a losing record. Only Tom Landry (21 and 2 Super Bowls) and Bill Belichick (19 and 6 Super Bowls) are ahead of Tomlin (18 and 1 Super Bowl win and 1 loss).The stats are hardly mediocre, in fact the opposite. We came within a fumble of winning a second Super Bowl under Tomlin, but Clay Matthews made a great play to cause the fumble. Did you call Coach Noll mediocre going 11 seasons without a Super Bowl appearance? Chuck missed the playoffs 8 years and the others were one and done. It has been near impossible to dominate / dynasty when free agency arrived. Most teams would love to have a coach like Mike who consistently gets more out of his players than other coaches. The last 2 games it's obvious the timing was/is off between Russ and George. Hope it returns for next week. We held Joe Burrow to 19 points and almost pulled out the win. Bad decisions on the field by Russ and dropped passes didn't help. MEDIOCRITY? Steeler fans are bandwagon and fickle. Some of us don't know how good we have it. Stats don't lie.

FINALLY someone who gets it. Thank you!
@cguzelli128 күн бұрын
@@SteelerFanInRI- thanks! Someone said the 4 coaches who were ahead of Coach Tomlin said they blew Mike out of the water. Hardly, except one. I know you'll appreciate these STATS as well. Shula was a head coach for 33 years. His playoff record is 19 wins and 17 losses for a .528 winning percentage, George Halas coached the Bears for 40 years. His playoff record is 6 wins and 3 losses for a .500 winning percentage. Mike Tomlin has coached for 18 years. His playoff record is 8 wins and 10 losses with a .444 winning percentage. It's below .500 but can you imagine Bud Grant (Vikings = 4 lost Super Bowls, no wins or worse Marv Levy who led the Buffalo Bills to 4 straight Super Bowls in a row without a win? It's a matter of perspective. Andy Reid has coached for 25 years and has 26 playoff appearances with 16 wins and 10 losses for a .615 winning percentage. Then you have Bill Belichick who's at the top with 28 years of coaching. His playoff record is a remarkable 31-13 with a .705 win percentage. All with a Tom Brady led Patriots team. If Bill blew (I say it was more Brady than Bill) - Mike Tomlin out of the water, he also blew Bill Cowher out of the water as well. When Tom Brady left for Tampa Bay, Bill's next season was 4-13. Tom Brady, is the G.O.A.T. and he, more than Belichick won those games. Proven when he won a 7th Super Bowl with Tampa Bay. Same with Andy Reid. He won 16 of his 26 playoff games and three Super Bowls with Patrick Mahomes. Andy went to the Super Bowl once with the Eagles and lost. One of Patrick's losses in playoffs was to Russell Wilson of Denver when Russ beat them 24 to 9. In the case of Mahomes and definitely Brady, it's quality Quarterback play that set both the Patriots and Chiefs ahead of the pack and in terms of playoff wins and winning percentages. Bill Belichick did nothing as Cleveland's head coach before Tom and Bill was nothing after Tom left. Andy did well with the Eagles, but it was the play of Mahomes when success and SB wins came for the Chiefs. FYI, I was a business developer and National Sales Manager and used stats all the time in defining Client and Markets in my job.

I’m conflicted. I think the Steelers are struggling and it is excruciatingly frustrating. But this year is different we were supposed to do something and haven’t. On the other hand you were complimenting Zach Taylor for being a good coach. He just missed the playoffs with a QB who is light years better than ours a position that is extremely important. They have the best WR in the league paired with Tee Higgins possibly making them the best duo. And they missed the playoffs. We had it locked up 4 weeks ago. In that sense we over achieved compared to the Bengals. But again I do not see an end or brightness in sight for the Steelers. Without getting a good draft pick for a QB, someone like Russel Wilson or Justin Fields is the next best thing right? That’s why I expected this year to be different. A very weird time for Steelers fans.
