It's surprising that Jose Casanova doesn't know that "We take these truths to be self-evident" is in the Declaration of Independence and not in the US Constitution. The Constitution doesn't depend on finding anything self-evident. The rhetoric of the Constitution is positivist. "We the People ... do ordain and establish this Constitution of the United States of America."
