Where the Oscars are concerned the only thing “The Sting” had going against it was “American Graffiti“, nominated the same year for the same award. The former was more conventional, the latter was the first of a series of movies in the 70s to experiment, and, true to form, the Oscars tend to not award best picture for those films. Both films are classics, both films are fun, but I have to admit I have seen “The Sting” more times and more often. The first time I saw it I did not know it had won Best Picture. It was a pleasant surprise to eventually learn that it had.

Its a 70s movie that looks like an 80s tv series... I reckon the reason it looks its age is that every film after that copied its artistic style

Just watched last night! This was one of those “best picture” winners not because of the actual movie , but because of everything surrounding it ! That score !!

I thought the movie was good. Great even. Not a masterpiece though. Not Godfather levels.
