I'd say ,the most important part of this is making damn sure you have the correct size bead so as to NOT pull the knot through the hole in the bead
@thegreatlakesfisherman Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Conversely, if the hole is too large, you can go with a thicker line. Stiffer line tends to lay the hook on the bait better any how. Thanks for the comment!

Good info! I have wonderes how to do such a thing. Just a fact for you. In the Pacific Northwest, you have to follow very closely what kind of hook you're using. Have to make sure that you have to use a single hook or a treble. If you are going after salmon and steelhead, the hooks have to be barbeless.

Glad it helped! I like the flexibility of removing it when switching baits, but to each their own. I can see many instances where a permanent fixture makes sense.

@thegreatlakesfisherman Жыл бұрын
Thanks! The line is Berkely Big Game 20 lb. test. It has a line diametere of .018" or .45mm. I don't have the specific dimensions of that bead, but if the hole diameter of the bead of your choice is between 1-1.25mm, you should be golden. Hope this helps!

Going to do this. Fish are ripping bodies off the heads or leaving bite marks with no hook ups
@thegreatlakesfisherman11 ай бұрын
Just make sure the bead diameter is just big enough to get two lines through but no bigger so the knot doesn’t slip through and you are golden. Good luck! It was a game changer for me.
@shelleysimpson65356 ай бұрын
Hi! Where did you get your bead and what is the size?
@thegreatlakesfisherman6 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, many beads do t specify inner diameter. I just found some I had around the house, but the key is to correlate it to the line size. For Instance, if you’re using 20lb Big Game, the line diameter is .46 mm so the bead diameter should be ~.92 mm. You can always use a slightly larger line (like 30lb.) or use bulkier knot if you get any slippage. Once you find the right combination for the line size you’re using, you’re golden.
@moisnhcrnr11 ай бұрын
Tried making this with 20 lb test, but it was too small when tying the knot--the bead passed through the knot. Were you using 100 lb test?
@thegreatlakesfisherman11 ай бұрын
The bead diameter is critical. The diameter should just allow the line to pass through it twice. If it’s much bigger, the knot can get through.
@moisnhcrnr11 ай бұрын

Do you put the treble hook through the tail of the bait ?
@thegreatlakesfisherman Жыл бұрын
I do not. I used to, but it was affecting the way the bait moved and didn’t look natural. If you use a stiffer line like the 20lb test I mention in the video, the stinger hook will hang right in the strike zone. Just above the tail of your bait.

Cheap ? Tackle gear is expensive these days 🤐
@thegreatlakesfisherman Жыл бұрын
I'll agree with that! But it is relatively cheap compared to buying them already made up. And once you get the jig set up for these and do a few, you can hammer them out pretty fast. And if you tip your hooks with live bait (especially minnows), I have found that you will save on them as well by simply putting the stinger on after the minnow, which prevents them from slipping off. The bead makes removing them a breeze. Here's a link to get 100 #10 treble hooks for $11.99: amzn.to/3oYZqI8

Deliberately foul hooking fish is considered poor form in most civilized countries.
@thegreatlakesfisherman Жыл бұрын
Same here. The stinger hook is not designed to foul hook. Rather, it is designed to catch fish that strike short of the main hook.

@thegreatlakesfisherman6 ай бұрын
I just started using some old beads that I’ve had for years. You’re best off experimenting with line size and bead size as many beads don’t indicate an inside diameter anyway. Just make sure that once you tie the knot, the bead won’t allow it back through.
@rockyraab8290 Жыл бұрын
Dittos on the kudos. Elegant. I might put a tiny drop of super glue on the final overhand knot, OR tie a two-turn uni knot around the main stinger line. It would still slide but be more secure.
@thegreatlakesfisherman Жыл бұрын
I haven't had any trouble with them loosening up, but the diameter of the hole in the bead relative to the line diameter is key. Thanks for the comment!
@rockyraab8290 Жыл бұрын
@@thegreatlakesfisherman My concern is that if the overhand knot comes undone, you lose the stinger hook altogether.
