A complete story is what every Analog horror maker literally forgets, like you can make scary videos and a horror story, but they all miss the simplest endings or giving people a chance, they just make the monsters or the antagonists too powerful. They EITHER always forget to add a main character that has an actual chance to defeat them, or they just lead everyone to an inevitable death. They never write down on how the victims or people will actually defeat the Antagonist. This is stupid.

I have to respect how well-made this is despite being made for April Fool's, feels like the plot of some 80s horror movie but presented in analog horror. Something I caught onto during the research logs by Dr. Chandra was that when the snow containing the organisms melted into water, they were still present within the water, which explains the post-credit scene, the snow melted and evaporated, only to fall back down in a new town, repeating the deadly cycle. There's also the reference of the UHF waves being used by the news stations being relegated to only be used for emergency broadcasts, meaning that when the government is trying to warn the public through those broadcasts, the organisms are able to corrupt them and travel through them, making things a bit more terrifying and removing any semblance of safety.
@theguylivinginyourwalls11 ай бұрын

Glad you gave it a second chance and enjoyed it! Not much to comment on in response other than four things: -"What a terrible lake name." Minnesota has TWO real Medicine Lakes (Also Bad Medicine, make of that name what you will)! =D I made up a third for this because Minnesota, being the Land of 10,000 Lakes, has many multiple lakes featuring the same name and I figured it would sound more realistic to go with one that already existed with a couple to it (could've gone with Lake Mary, which currently we have 19 of). -Since the whole thing's available online for free anyway, the DVD and digital versions include three new segments! They help break up the amount of audio-only ones near the end. It's doesn't fundamentally change anything in the story, just expand on the woman from segment 4 a bit. -The version you're watching is the one that combined them all into one, but upon release the individual segments had a few errors here or there (anachronisms, a video edit that had slid off from where it was supposed to, etc.), but most notably I cut the line from the final city council meeting "Look at his arms! THEY'RE MADE OF SNOW!" because people found it to be a rather... narmishly funny line in what was supposed to be a serious scene. -The fan (and pretty much official name) for these creatures are "Snowlems." When I wrote it, I went with the working title of "The Storm" for them, but the audience took to that name. XD Thanks again for this and glad you liked it!

It’s a minor detail, but it’s so cool how Winter of ‘83 deals with blood / corpses. Usually, cold / winter ish conditions are expected to preserve the body and slow down rot, but it seems like the snow-organism has the OPPOSITE effect; some scenes including a dead body (like 1:12:09) show the skeleton or blood or just pieces, implying the person was harmed quickly And that’s another thing- the juxtaposition of the bodies on the snow. I believe there was a body within a snowman at some point, but quite a few are seen above the snow during active and heavy snowstorms. It works against nature; these bodies aren’t waiting until spring to be found, and instead act like a lure to confused civilians passing by (to the benefit of the organism) ! So cool

Just a quick heads up for anybody who's going to Linkara's channel expecting more analog horror: he doesn't normally do analog horror. Linkara is a comic book reviewer (and has been around since pre 2010 if memory serves) and he only really does things like this particular series for April Fool's Day videos. It's usually just a thing he does that is different from his normal set up and the only other April Fool's Day video I remember watching is one where he parody's Welcome to Night Vale. Other than that, he's a pretty decent story teller and there's at least one video series that goes over the story that crops up in the background of his over all review series. He also doesn't have a good sense of humor towards OneyNG taking affectionate jabs at him.

People think this is scary, but in reality, this is just another typical winter storm for us who live in Minnesota.

A lot of John Carpenter's The Thing(based on The Thing from Another World which is based on the short story Who Goes There) in this analog horror what with the voice and body mimics. Hilarious that they used a snowman as the monster 😂. Good stuff.

Super random, but just want to say thank you. I’ve had one of the most stressful days in years and your voice is inexplicably very very calming. It’s like listening to an old friend tell a ghost story around a cozy fire. Thank you 🙏

Wow, I really love this analog horror, good plot, not convoluted, good characters and it’s very interesting in general. Overall, 10/10. There’s no mistakes or bad decisions. A great analog horror

This one was actually way better than I tought it would be since the beginning was kinda eh and also felt kinda like "kids first analog horror", but I belive it got better and better over time and I actually really liked it~! Also... Rip Carl... He was a nice character :(

IM SORRY THE SINGING PART 😭 but anyways this content was absolutely wonderful! I love watching your content, even if I’ve only been watching for just a week I’ve already been so interested in sinkhole, the Medusa virus, the smile tapes, Midwest Angelica, somnium, the man in the suit, the tangi virus, and here I am watching this. Your an incredible content creator and even if this was a month ago you should keep going! sorry I feel nice today BAHHAHA

This video is something, if not cursed. The part where it froze when she said "I'm so cold."😨 Also the whole thing about snow and the weather report warning, it's a blizzard out here right now where I am....

This was so good and it was creepy especially being from Minnesota myself, everyone felt helpless against the snow. I wish they could of alluded to or explained how the snow killed people and how they worked, it seemed they assimilated into the forms of the people they killed but from Carl's death it just looks like a snowman with a face, do they change forms when they kill people? Just little details like that I wish we knew.

Huh, haven't heard the name Linkara in a while. I also didnt expect this to be a creation of theirs, nice. Whenever I investigate what the internet considers to be amongst the top analog horror, Winter of '83 often comes up. Glad to see you covering it! Edited for spelling.

Love the fact the bacteria never really speaks but only says “hey can you help me with this?” And “thanks bud”, but at the end of the final video of the series it actually says something with the text to speech voice it had instead of the stolen ones.

😮I JUST HAD A POTENTIALLY IMPORTANT REALIZATION JUST NOW!!! I just now remembered this! I grew up in the early 2000s, and thus dealt with a lot of analog television and VHS stuff. I don't know how widespread the lingo was, but my dad always called TV static "snow". And when the TV static got so bad that there was only black and white static (no color, no trace of the actual show attempting to be transmit), I as a little girl called it a "blizzard" since the flurry of white static looked like heavy snowfall!! I wonder if the creator of this also made that connection between TV static "snow" and real life actual snow, which is why the lifeform has powers over snow and electromagnetic stuff!!!
