Ike Perlmutter (Kevin Feige's old boss) felt that female-lead productions would not be financially viable. That's why the Black Widow film took so many years for Feige to make, and why female-lead productions are being pushed now. Also, Marvel Studios didn't have the film rights to the X-Men until only a few years ago, and they already had plans for the next 5 years in place. About a month ago, Marvel officially put out a call for writers to pitch their ideas for X-Men films. Hopefully, at least one of those writers will pitch/has pitched a solo Storm project. If we get one, I'm thinking that it will be after the first X-Men film, and we likely won't see that until about 2025 or later. Due to the underperformance of some recent productions, Marvel has decided to slow down (and in some cases, outright canceled) all upcoming releases.
