Thank you Gary! I've always been a big fan of Jam & Spoon / Dance 2 Trance / Storm. I met Rolf / Jam some years ago and as soon as I started my channel I had him on my wish-list. I don't live anywhere near Frankfurt, so it took a while, but hey, good work needs time right? ;-) Still very happy he invited me to his studio and shared all those great stories with me! What a legend and so down to earth! Glad you enjoyed the interview! :)
@gazzabazzazza3 жыл бұрын
@@muzikxpress jam and spoon really did put their unique stamp on the trance genre IMHO. They were experimental too - you only need to listen to the 2nd tripomatic fairytales to realise this. The sad thing is i think an awful lot of older people reckon the music in their younger years was the best but i swear the 1990s was a truly amazing time for music. When you look at the trance scene, then progressive trance and progressive house. Extraordinary. I'm so lucky i was around for the likes of Prodigy (ok - breakbeat / hardcore), Underworld, Jam N Spoon, Leftfield, Sasha, Fluke, etc. When the scene was sorta still underground or at least club based while still kinda 'free' and not too glam. Hope you get what i mean. Clubs are very different too now. I'm listening to tripomatic fairytales 2001 as i type and it's a masterpiece. It's a proper trip. Don't get me wrong. There's been fantastic music since but i'm not sure you get tunes like Odyssey to Anyoona anymore. Perfect euphoric music but with a great beat and you don't have to have cheesy vocals. Everything in the track fits together so well. Makes me very happy (but sad too - life was good then and much has happened since but there again that's life). "... if he was asked at this moment where he would like to be he would probably have said he would like to be lying on the beach with at least 50 beautiful women and a small team of experts" 🤣 Thanks again brother

It was THE kick drum which Jam El Mar created - that is what set THIS track apart from absolutely anything else that was playing in the clubs back then! On top of having great music in it, as soon as you heard that kick on large speakers you realized this is something completely NEW never heard before! Of course it was not long before other techno artists copied it, and then something terrible happened - it migrated into the dance scene and at one point every "dance" record in every European country had this kick drum to the point it became a bit too much.

Lovely interview! Thank you, Twan! I'll be honest, I never had an opportunity to dig much of the music of the "Dance 2 Trance" project, until, probably, a couple of years ago, but I must say, I really like some of the tunes. Nowadays I'm working on a compilation of old-school-classics, that, is really valuable for the dancing generation of the '90s, so I'll definitely going to include "We Came In Peace" (Desert Mix) on it. I guess I'm loving Ethno Instrumental Mix more than a Vocal (Original) mix of the "Power Of American Natives", probably because I remember it off of the radio airplay of back in the days. I guess, it was featured on the "Dream Dance" compilation series, that was Huge (literally, fucking, Huge) on post-soviet space, probably because of, those compilation series were like the breath of fresh air, so local radio station DJ's picked that version, and that's why I prefer it to the well-known vocal mix. Once again, what a pleasure to have an opportunity to watch such privileged content! You do amazing work, Twan! Thank you!
