its all about supporting each other. Some saying they wouldnt have waited so long, it wasn't about him not knowing she was for him, it was him wanting to do what was good for him and following his dreams and getting them accomplished. She supported that and that's what you are supposed to do when you love each other. It took 10 years for me and my husband to get married because we wanted to finish college before we got married. We knew we would get there and now 20 years later we are still strong. When you are ready and not forced, it will work if it's meant to :)

My husband and I were together 11 years prior to getting married. We had priorities to sort out first. I have a preexisting medical condition so I had to be sure I could continue to be insured and financially stable. I stayed on my parents insurance and finished college and then worked for a few years and got insurance through my job. My husband went to college for awhile and eventually ended up getting a factory job for a few years before we got married so we were both insured and able to pay our bills. He's got a better paying and less physically demanding job now and I'm able to stay home with our kids. It's a blessing.

You have to sort out things for yourself and your own future and your partner has to do the same and when both are ready to build a life together, and not make each other miserable, then get married. So I agree with your choices and decision :) Marriage isn't a joke and being together in life isn't a joke as well especially if both already have a another life taking care of. Yes! And he was emotionally connected with his dad's advice, to marry when he could support s family. So, Dad played a role. And so perhaps that made him a bit apprehensive about trusting himself as the provider, - not being prepared to fail. So, he waited until he came to terms, with his personal expectations. Probably realized, that it was ok to grab the gusto & say, Cheers Dad!!! I'll make it. We'll make it! I'm happy for him. I'm thrilled for her! Congratulations to both! Stay brave young man! When his father passed, it set him back a bit until he was ready to finish and in doing so he honored his father. Thats admirable. She stayed by his side supporting him all the way. We almost have the same story. My now husband and I got together in 2013. In 2015 his dad was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and January 5th 2016 he passed away. My husband was in college and working. School was put on hold for a few months while we grieved and moved in with his mom. He decided to quit his job and finish school full time. He graduated in 2017 to end up working a cs job for an internet company for 15 months when he finally started his career in IT. We decided to get married earlier this year. May 2023 will be 10 years together and February will be 1 year married. ❤

If you can find someone who sticks with you through major life events such as a family loss, that's rare. Depression sets in and the relationship changes. It sounds like they talked things through before he went to grad school, hence the delay in marriage. That might not have worked for anyone else, but it worked for them. Cheers to them! 🥂

You're so right about the depression comment. One year I experienced 4 deaths within a 5-6 month time-frame (1 close friend and 3 family members) and it caused me to go into a depression because I was getting hit heavily back to back. My ex cheated on me during that time and told me that I was a horrible girlfriend and that I was being dramatic and needed to get over the deaths because "people die everyday." The one time that I've ever spoken out about this situation I was told by multiple men that I deserved it and that they hoped that I had learned a lesson about being selfish. 😕😕 Sorry for the rant, I just needed to express myself.

I agree with some comments here. My husband and I went to the court house with family and friends (20 people total) followed by a nice dinner with everyone. It didn’t take us any time to organize it. We were only 6 weeks engaged. We then had two church ceremonies 3 years later….thanks COVID. One ceremony was in his country, one was in mine. If it’s just about tying the knot, an unpretentious court house ceremony could have happened anytime. No need to wait 15 years for the right time if she is your soulmate and you want to be with her for the rest of your life.

This is a lovely story and regardless of the time frame, I love that they didn't force themselves to get married before they were ready. Marriage is a piece of paper and their love and commitment was present prior. My husband didn't propose until after I needed emergency surgery and he realized that he didn't have any rights and couldn't helps make medical decisions or anything. Sorry ladies for not getting back to y'all but many things keep you in the happiness zone and every couple's relationship is a little different. But here's the list. That means having all of the real conversations ahead of time. That means skipping corny dates to the movie theater and instead going for walks in the park where you can literally GRILL her for the information you need in order to know whether or not you want to build with her. That means no sex to cloud your judgment. Today's society? Meet. Sleep around. Play games. Marry her because she's pretty and does all the nasty things you like in the bedroom. And then CRY when she divorces you and takes you to the cleaners. OR (like this dude...) string a good woman along while you (more than likely do the most on the side) and when you are an old fossil tired of running the streets--marry her. Due diligence is key. And it doesn't take 15 years for that.

She's gorgeous. 15 years is a LONG time. Men know soon after within year 1 or less. Being friends is one thing but courting or dating that long. Not judging glad he stepped up and made it official. Sometimes it's finances. Sometimes it's something else. She looked absolutely beautiful on her wedding day.

@JANELLE well, I get that it's her prime years but ultimately it was her choice to stay on. Also, you can still have kids even without marriage.... Plus the US is so progressive, it's not like he can get awaywithout paying child support or anything. There's not much difference between being married and not being married except for the legal benefits you get like tax benefits and medical decision authority. I'm a woman and I don't see how a marriage makes your relationship different. Being married doesn't make you each other's priority. They can still cheat on you, abuse you etc. Marriage is no longer a safety net like it was back in the day. It's just a legal agreement that gives you social security.

Whether it works out or not, it's a sign that the person has chosen you and publicly declared it before God and man. It holds you accountable for that person. They still could have gotten married. They were doing everything already as a married couple so I don't see the point in waiting. Going to school shouldn't stop that unless you're unsure about whether or not you actually want to get married. Honestly sounds kind of like a cop out. The only thing I can understand them holding off on is children. Other than that, getting married would have actually saved them money on their taxes

I want to say money might have been a reason as well. Weddings are expensive (if you want like a traditional wedding ceremony) They may have had debts or other things they wanted to get done first. However, I do feel like the proposal could have happened sooner, since people wait 2-3 years to get married if they are getting a booked out venue. We don't know their situation, could be that leap into full commitment might be scary, or external factors at play. But they do look happy and I am hoping all the best for their marriage, it's been a long time coming.

I kind of agree. And it's really interesting how he didn't remember the date he proposed to her which was only a year ago. He doesn't seem really that invested in her and she seems like she desperately wants a husband. Good for them if they enjoy it but this is clearly an example of what happens when one person is more invested in the relationship in the other isn't. He clearly enjoys being with her but he doesn't seem to have wanted her as a wife.

I am assuming with the evidence i have that finances such as planning the wedding could have held this couple back especially if they have debts like school loans to pay off first. I am about to hit 14 years in my relationship we have 5 beautiful boys just did things ass backwards but boy have we grown together, hurt together, and overcame together ❤️ love is love and that's to be celebrated. My complete thoughts exactly! People who are together for THAT long prior to marriage (not saying this couple did, but a lot of times) they're probably already living together, are definitely having premarital sex, and are still reaping the benefits without everything being official from a legal standpoint. Which is why there's no need for them to rush down the altar, they're already doing the married thing without being married! But ain't NO WAY I'm doing this God's way and STILL waiting around for 15 years for someone to be sure about me. Not happening, lol. Funny clip though. I did the same with my husband. We were together for 5 years instead of 15. We went to Vegas and it was just me and him and the officiant. My husband said, "Oh my God you really have been waiting a long time"! We were laughing so hard, we were all laugh crying. Hey, if you can't poke fun with your partner then that is not the one. My husband and I got married after 13 years together and our son was 2 when we got married but it is really amazing to know we had 11 years together before our son and now we have all our time together as a family ❤
