In the short time they were active and making music, Acid Bath managed to make some of the most inventive and unique metal music of the era. The story remains tragic to this day.

For everyone saying "Emo was created after Acid Bath", you're literally incorrect, and because I'm sick of having to respond to everyone saying this separately I'm just going to pin a comment explaining it, because people aren't able to do a simple Google Search. Emo was originally born out of D.C. Hardcore in the 1980s, Rites of Spring and Embrace laid down the structure for the emo genre long before Acid Bath. Emo was well underway in the early 90s with bands like Sunny Day Real Estate. When the Kite String Pops was released in 1994. Just because your understanding of emo is MCR and Fallout Boy doesn't make me incorrect.

Acid Bath is THE underground band, when I first got into them no one even knew who they were, the internet made them more popular in 2008 and so on, I got into them in 2000, they had just broke up and were extremely underground. Nothing really can ever match the first time I heard those albums, life changing.

I drove 4 hours through a terrible winter storm to see Acid Bath play in a smaller venue outside Scranton, PA. This would have been late 95 or early 96. It was a low-key enough venue that I just sat on one of the stage's sidefill monitors and watch the whole show. Their understated intensity was just unbelievable. Before the show I really wanted to buy one of the acid bath baby t-shirts in a L, which they didn't have at their merch table and Dax goes "come on, we've got some in our bus". Got to talk drums with Jimmy Kyle. Later that year, Paegan Terrorist Tactics dropped and I've never been as stoked to listen to a new album. From track one on, it's just a pitch-perfect collection of songs.

Dude! Very similar experience when I saw them in Tampa, FL. It was a tiny venue called the Brass Mug. Such a surreal experience seeing my favorite band play live while I shot pool on a table like 15 feet away. I've since been to over a hundred live shows over the years, but that Acid Bath show is still my favorite and most unique concert experiences of my life.

I remember coming across Acid Bath by accident as an angst riddled 13 year old back in the days of Limewire and such. They heavily influenced my thinking going forward and despite the absurd and dark lyrics really helped me through a hard time in my life. Now I'm 32 and they're still one of my favorite bands of all time. Mad respect to Acid Bath. Easily one of the most unknown and underrated bands of all time.

i think i remember the limewire thing, there were a number of low quality nu metal songs just labeled as a bunch of different popular bands - i remember briefly thinking 'whoa this must be a super group or something' and then it turned out to be generic low audio quality garbage - and acid bath was the first name on the list of bands, right? something like that. i discovered them by accident as well, found a 'kite string pops' cd at school one day and was hooked for life. i also found a skinlab cd at school, the kids at my middle school had some pretty good taste. actually i also found a fucking shaquille oneil rap cd at school too, now that i think about it, so maybe not THAT good of taste, but. if not for whoever lost that acid bath cd i may have never gotten into them. forever in whoever's debt, i am.

I love this band. Their lyrics are seriously under-rated. Of course when I was around 12, just learning about their music right after they disbanded, I liked the faster, louder stuff. Now that I’m older, I have a new appreciation for the slower, more melodic stuff, because it remains just as heavy but also beautiful. I’m not sure how I feel about how much I relate to some of their songs. They capture horrific experiences through the eyes of sadists and serial killers, while still being sympathetic to how horrific these themes are for the victims. If you have been through certain traumas, you wonder what exactly the perpetrator was thinking. It’s somehow cathartic.

I worked with a guy from southeast Louisiana and he was shocked that I had heard of them. But I am from alabama so they were pretty big in the underground in at least a few of the southeastern states. Any metal head from Alabama that was around during the 90s knows about acid bath and probably still listens to them. Two classic albums imo.

Goatwhore is a spiritual successor in my opinion. Many of their riffs remind me of songs that could’ve been on WTKSP. I know it is due to the fact the guitarist is a former Acid Bath member but I mean you got Jezebel and Cassie Eats Cockroaches laying out the blue print. PTT had a great ambience throughout too. Graveflower and Bleed Me an Ocean are the highlights of that album imo

Goddamn, what a band. I'm a Louisiana native. It's almost unfortunate how relatable "When The Kite String Pops" is. Hot, humid summers - burning and drowning all at once in a dripping mess. The endless droning hum of insect sex. Wildflowers and barbed wire, Roadkill and flies. There are some cities, of a sort, few and far between. And in between, there's nothing for miles and miles. Trees and nature, so dense as to be unnavigable. The rural areas, you find people who life forgot. Some are just elderly, and watched their world disappear as the children and the jobs moved away. Some lost more than just their innocence to rampant drug abuse. And some just want something good to die for. Meanwhile, corruption poisons the well, from top to bottom. Everyone looks out for themselves and their own here, and will remember any slight you've made against them to drive in the knife at your weakest moment. Families will devour themselves over the most trivial shift in social power or economic mobility. And worst of all is that, in time, you seem to become just like them, for your own survival. I don't know if it's surprising that Louisiana hasn't created more serial killers, or if the deaths just aren't being reported correctly because of who knows who. "Welcome to the snare trap shaped like a state: here's your free gun and dark family secret." So, yeah, I like how Dax and this band really captured the deep-southern wasteland mood.

I first saw Golgotha (soon to be Acid Bath) back in 1991 in Baton Rouge. Who doesn't love a heavy thrash metal band with a unique singer that excelled at motivatin' mosh pits on a nightly basis? I was impressed with their whole presence on stage & the sounds emanatin' from their instruments just filled the whole room with bad-ass electric tunes that synced with human aggression & wonderment. "When the Kite String Pops" remains in my top 5 metal albums of all time! Sure glad I grabbed a copy back then.

Sure, ok well off the top of my head some bands in the same vein are Slaves of Freedom, Leak, Dax's stuff after Acid Bath, Penguins with Knives, System Red, Factor 8, Forces of Nature, Cikada, Goatwhore, Soilent Green, Tungsten, Crowbar, Choke, Asbestosdeath, Superjoint/Superjoint Ritual, Sludge, Down, Abuse, Shrüm, Hawg Jaw, Grief, Automind, Buzzoven, Black Market Halos, and Southern Whiskey Rebellion. and I would also recommend EHG, Iron Monkey, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Melvins, Meth Drinker, Crone, Kyuss, Ritual Killer, Thou, Carcinogen, Fiendance, Infant Slug, Cavity A.D., Dead Horse, Stressball, 16, Dystopia, Graveyard Rodeo, and Absolum as well, despite a few of these being more well known (and some being newer) they all share some key characteristics that fans of Acid Bath would enjoy. Obviously not all of these band's I've listed are sludge or from Louisiana but they're all worth mentioning. Even Kittie, early Staind, and early Slipknot shown lots of Acid Bath influence. Brawl (pre-Disturbed) is also worth mentioning, pretty similar to Down.

I saw acid bath live back in 93 or maybe it was 94'. Cant remember as i was young and doing my own "acid" thing. Years ahead of their time and everything that metal should be. Poetic, grinding, sludgy and brutal with screams that sound like gargling glass followed by almost type o melodic breaks. Everything they did still holds up today and its tragic just how short a run they had. Truly special and these albums will always have a place in my dark corrupted heart.
