Besides, the workmanship of Bengal was also famous all over the world for jute and silk. For this reason, the British built their first sea port in Bengal in the year 1870. That is, there was a time when Bengal to be the crown of the head of India and many great men of India like Swami Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Swami Vivekananda, RabindrNath Tagore were also born in Bengal. The same great economists like Nobel Prize winner Amartya Sen, Abhijit Banerjee, Mother Teresa were also born in Bengal and six decades ago, according to EPW data, in the year 1960, on the basis of per capita income, Bengal was ahead of many states. But today according to the data of 2023, Bengal has started coming among the poorest states of India. Because West Bengal now lags behind poor states like Chhattisgarh. So the biggest question here is that how did Bengal, the richest state of India become the poorest today?
