Honestly I wish we saw this side to Riley more often because instead of being purposely ignorant, he's actually being very insightful and calling out Grandad's cliches.

This show is one of the best examples of great satire, and sadly we'll probably never get anything quite like it again. It does a great job of balancing those cultural things that nobody wants to talk about with amazing humor. Aaron McGruder and his team were some of the best.

This episode shows that Robert and the boys are descended from both slaves and slave owners in a humorous way.

It's an episode basically saying that history is part fact and fiction and we'll never really know the truth.
@HighLordBlazeReborn

Well not quite. It's that history is a mix of what we say it is and the bits/possibilities we specifically talk over and would rather keep quiet.

i like how this episode reminds me of the one from avatar with the 2 rival clans, and they each had a version of what happened to their ancestors, and then aang had his own version. lol it's hard for me to describe the hypocrisy of the word how i want but this is as close as i can come to it. there's a warden and prisoners, and the warden addresses them as "inmate". 2 prisoners are talking to each other and the warden says "yard time is over, back to your cell inmate". then the one prisoner tells the other, "well you heard him, inmate. lol" then eventually all the prisoners call each other inmate as like an inside joke, or symbol of brotherhood, but when the warden says it the word has a negative vibe to it because they know coming from him it either means a warning, punishment or danger. years later when the inmates have been released and run into each other at the store they greet each other "hey, what's up inmate?!", and catch up with each other. then ironically the warden that kept watch of them is at the store too and he says "hey long time no see inmates, how have you been?", and it just comes off wrong. then the children and grandchilden and great grandchildren of all the prisoners greet each other as "inmate", but when the offspring of the warden and anybody that worked at the prison says it to the offspring of the prisoners, it just sounds wrong. or something like that, that analogy could be terrible. lol but i feel like yeah it's hypocritical and we should stop saying it, but after everything that happened to our ancestors, maybe it's one hypocrisy that they should just let us keep until we sort it out ourselves? lol

That’s actually a pretty good analogy. Ima use that wheni explain it from now on. But I wouldn’t call it hypocrisy, for the exact reason you stated. It becomes an inside joke or a symbol of brotherhood.

Who wants the word to die? It should live forever. Do we not keep items in museums so future generations know that cruelty exists? This item is living.

To answer your question regarding the n word. Yes i do think we should stop using the word and start addressing each other by our actual name or nicknamethat's given to us by family or friend . And to those who has kids is this the kind of message we should tell them it okay to say or call another black person? The answer is no. It time remove that word as well many things in the black community that holds us back. This was a great episode as well a very funny one. As we get Grandad, Ruckus and Huey take on the story and history of Catcher Freeman. But anyway I hope you have a wonderful day. Stay safe, take care and stay amazing Allona.

Hey great content, I really don't think that it would ever go away because. I've heard two white guys calling each other that as they were fighting. I've heard two Latino's and Asians do the same. I think they like using it to insult each other more than they do to insult black people. Crazy Huh! Keep up the Awesome Work.

With the topic you brought up in the beginning about the "n word" I see it a bit differently. And it's kinda important I start off with this by saying that I'm black lol I see it as 2 separate issues that need to be dealt with separately 1) White, or non-black people using the n word "because we use it so why can't they" 2) Us using the n word every chance we get I think both are a problem. But the logic of "well if we don't like non black people saying it we shouldn't say it ourselves" is a bad argument imo. Our people dealt with that word and it's history, no one else's, and in most cases, their ancestors are the ones that were using it on black slaves who built the country they are standing on today to use that word. When a non black bring up this argument, shut them down immediately, as NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES AND HOW OFTEN BLACKS USE THAT WORD IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU and it does not give you a reason to say it yourself because you aren't black, simply put. Now once that's out of the way then you can discuss the internal problem within our own people on chilling tf out with that word and what many think is "our culture" in general and realizing that these do not benefit us at all. And make us look stupid from outsiders looking in.

1:11 It's really about respect, as a white person why would they want to say a word so badly that they know the history of. Is it that life changing, "My life is now ruined because I can't say the N word" I don't get the obsession.

I follow the er vs ga rules, cuz I definitely had white and Spanish homeboys who say nigga and never chastised them for it, but I’ve definitely also had white and Spanish homeboys that say it and it’s like “ok bruh ur having too much fun with that privilege, hit the brakes”🤦🏾‍♂️😂 It’s really about respect, we all know where the word come from, what it’s become, what it means and all its definitions, it’s connotations, so you better be friendly and genuine as hell if u wanna participate in saying the n word, cuz if not, then ima take it as u mocking something u feel me. But like everyone said best way to nip all of this in the bud is to not say it at all

no don't do that.. no other race should say it because no other slurs against other groups are used so freely. so why we as black should be disrespected by the world. we as black ppl rollover to much for other races comfort and I'm tired of it.
