Mr. Charlton was good friends with my father and my uncles. The last time I saw him I was in high school. He was highly respected in Manchester.

That’s really cool. I’m the great grandson of Cecil. I’m the grandson to Donald( his first born son). I had no idea just how loved my great grandfather was in Jamaica. My family immigrated before his death and I never got the opportunity to meet him

I knew Mr. C very well. He was a man of exquisite taste and the money to realize his impeccable vision. He was hands on and personally made sure Mandeville was the cleanest town in Jamaica for several years.

I meet him for the first time back in 1978 when use to visit my school 'West Indies College High ' at our Open Day and I understand he was once a student there. I also remember he was in conflict with the PNP 1979 and he joined the JLP, won and returned as mayor. I also believe he also joined the MDM in later years. His magnificent house is a site to behold from the school campus and it was open to the public. He was Mandeville's greatest mayor.

I will always remember Cecil Charlton as an outstanding citizen of Mandeville. Leading up to the 1980 election, MP Peart of the PNP relinquished his seat & we all supported Cecil Charlton to replace him, instead the PNP selected Peart's son as his replacement. He lost to Haughton of the JLP. If Charlton was selected, he would have held the seat, as Haughton was a novice politician. Mayor Charlton switched to the JLP supporting Haughton & so did I, as I considered the PNP's rejection of him representing the constituency a disgrace. The PNP dissed him as a loyal follower. While mayor, he went above & beyond his role as mayor serving the community by providing an ambulance for the community among other things. He was committed to keeping the town square & the park clean & free of vendors, employing security personnel to monitor the areas & levying fines on offenders. In those days the town of Mandeville was clean & pleasant to call home. May he rest in peace.

This one had me hooked. 😅 Awesome Bro! This one push me back in time and history of my childhood country... Conversely, it seems ALL these names in Jamaica of famous places, or buildings were actually named off literal people.

Ceasel Charlton was truly an icon in Mandeville! He later married someone who was living in my birth district! She was then living in Walderston! Didn't know they had a son. Didn't know Bateman was a mother! Thanks greatly for your information!
