Saw an exhibition of his works a few years ago in Karlsruhe, left there feeling so inspired! He's truly a innovator!

My favorite Cezanne painting is a dark woodland and boulders scene that I saw at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. Absolutely beautiful and unlike anything else in the exhibition.

Thank you for this beautiful video. I love the painting at 2:36 so much. I wish I could fly to Tate to see it in person.

I worked a Museum that had 10 of his works on permanent display. Like many great artists he wasn't really appreciated by the public during his time. The Director of the Museum ( a contemporary of Cezanne) in Aix en Provence didn't even want to collect his paintings, very unfortunate for Aix en Provence. Cezanne basically had 4 distinct periods, the first being a very heavy style that was mentioned in this video at point 1:39

No, with a much more interesting Tate. Sir Henry Tate, (1819 - 1899) started out in a grocery shop, which he turned into a chain, bought patent to make sugar cubes, became a philanthropist and gave his collection of art to the government if they build a gallery for it. He donated a large amount towards building of the gallery as well as many charities.

I no longer see Cezanne as a relevant artist . I can understand that to his contemporaries he was radical but viewed now ,early 21st century his paintings are tame and contrived , which isn't true of some of his contemporaries. I think Cezanne's high status is really down to the influence he had on Picasso and Matisse, they built to some degree on what Cezanne left unfinished. Had Picasso and Matisse looked elsewhere I do not think Cezanne would enjoy his current status at all . Of course, the art market is pseudo and all the galleries and auction houses have to keep the artists works that they possess at a high market value . This is simply achieved through art market conspiracy.

I bet he's spinning in his grave that you don't see him as relevant.

To see cezannes relevance you have to be a painter yourself. He's one of the greatest artists who ever lived

how can any artist be irrelevant? we don't have time to go there, but it's true. as for Cezanne - I think it's clear he was groping, reaching, processing....and to me, the result of that process is beautiful.
