Awesome story, Ron has done some legendary digging! I couldn't imagine the feeling of getting permission to dig after asking for such a long time.

Absolutely Real Time ! He explained in much more detail off-camera. I’m so glad Wilson finally agreed , for all our sakes. Otherwise we wouldn’t know what a Davis looks like. It was a small miracle!

Great documentation of these little known very rare Davis marbles by Stephen and WV marble guru Ron. The story of Davis marbles and the ultimate dig at the factory site as told by Ron on the collectors site All About Marbles.com actually brought tears to my eyes. I am the most fortunate recipient of 5 different Davis marbles gifted to me by Ron from the dig. While not the flashiest marbles in my collection they are top A-List examples for obvious reasons. Hens teeth! Thank you Stephen for enlightening marble collectors with another stupendous marble video.

I don't know if you knew an Ed Heinbaugh or not but he was my uncle. I grew up mowing grass and doing chores for marbles. I remember my very first florescent marble he gave me. I have great memories of a first class marble collection and remember his office with cases and cases of high end marbles. I've just started watching your videos but have to say they bring back alot of memories. I'm surprised I still remember names and patterns. Thanks for the videos.

I just viewed that box of Davis in person last weekend while digging some Davis up at Cairo. Found around 15 identifiable Davis so far out of the Cairo dig. Lots of the yellow lightnings that I dug are fractured. Only dug two yellow lightnings and that aren’t fractured. All but one fluoresced orange, so perhaps Cairo also made some clear based yellow marbles but there appears to be no Cairo cullet with that color…
@stephenbahrmarbles2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the update insert! I grabbed about two buckets of cullet from Cairo grounds, I’ll start looking though them. As far as how much Davis and Cairo bought and sold with each other, I’m not 100% sure, no one knows exactly. I would think the more you dig a certain type from the grounds = the more likely it was produced there. The mystery continues…

I’m very new to this addiction having on a whim went through the couple jars of old marbles I’ve had and now cannot get enough of learning about them. I have one I’m trying very hard to identify. I’ve gotten everything from Jackson, Heaton, Alox. Now I’d have to throw Davis in. What is a telltale that would define if it is or is not a Davis?
@stephenbahrmarblesАй бұрын
Hi Oliveoil, there aren’t an awful lot of tell-tale signs for Davis as they shared the same raw glass materials with some of the other neighboring factories : making it very difficult to know exactly what company produced what exact marble. Ron had explained the ones that are distinctive to Davis here. Cairo Novelty and Jackson made some very similar marbles. The best way of knowing is to get as many as possible in-hand for study. Many of them can’t reliably be assigned to one particular company in my opinion.
