#FefeDobson The Story Of FeFe Dobson | Did Rihanna Steal From Fefe. Fefe Dobson is a Canadian artist that gained mainstream prominence in the early 2000s. During her rise in that era she was compared to Avril Lavigne (who’s is also from Canada) mainly because the two share a similar Punk Rock and alternative rock musical background. Although she gained more attention in her native Canada, her reach would spill over into the ears of US listeners. She had a punk rock spirit while delivering beautiful raspy vocals in her music and Audience fell in love with the Canadian artist. Fefe Dobson’s entry into the mainstream was very promising but over the duration of Dobson’s career her momentum quiet died down. This is the story of Fefe Dobson. Pop Culture
Born Felicia Lily Dobson the Toronto singer began sending demos to record labels at age 11. While shopping for representation she would be boxed in the R&B and the Pop genre because of her mixed raced background although she was clearly punk . People were skeptical that a black girl can make rock music and be successful at it. Fefe was sought after by Jive records but she walked away from the label because they wanted to develop her as Mainstream pop star. The artist would later sign with Nelly Furtado’s manager Chris Smith who would arrange showcases with several labels. Fefe Dobson auditioned for Island/Def Jam and in her showcase the singer would get signed 30 seconds into her 1st song. The debut album for the singer was self-titled, Fefe Dobson was released on December 9, 2003 under Island Records. In 2004 The album sold 500,000 copies worldwide and went platinum in Canada shipping 100,000 copies. Fefe Dobson received generally positive reviews and was praised by fans and critics and the album spawned 4 singles; Bye Bye Boyfriend, Take Me Away, Everything, Don’t Go (Girls and Boys)
Although Fefe Dobson was never overly popular or sold the most in her career there’s no doubt that she has spearheaded the rock era in the early 2000s as one of the few black female artist. Now it’s a lot easier for artist to break out and do multiple genres since Fefe’s debut. She has influenced the culture and was ahead of time.

Omg. You can see the capping for Rhianna in this comment section when MULTIPLE artists have come out and said the same thing where the labels “CLAIMED” that they didn’t like the smaller artists idea or concept but then gave ithe smaller artists idea and concept to bigger artists because they knew BIGGER artists would capitalize and MAKE MONEY for them. It’s the dirty game of the music industry

I think her story is definitely a cautionary one. I've been a Fefe Fan for YEARS (I'm talking like buying the disc at walmart and listening to it on the bus till it broke type fan) so my opinion is biases but I think the music industry at the time was changing by the time Fefe's second album came out. So much so that someone (not sure who) had to make an executive decision that artists needed to be dropped in order to pull more money behind other bigger artists. Yes her first album did well but also Rihanna had the pull of Jay-Z (who was the president at the time at Def Jam). Rihanna's first two albums didn't do that great either however Island Def Jam made the executive decision to drop Fefe, teairra mari (and I believe a few other artists) to make way for Rihannas pop transition. I guess it made sense from a numbers stand point but I think that more people needed to be expose to artists like Fefe because there are so few woman of color in the pop/punk/rock genre. I literally can count them on one hand. I feel like she's an innovator and we haven't seen the last of her.

I believe Fefe's style was taken because she would not play the game & probably not sex it up either. Look at Amerie & Beyonce's career. Amerie walks down the street normal & Beyonce walks down the street sexy & the style is both Gogo & Amerie came out first. I think The industry copies & puts their own spin on it. I also think Rihanna copied Kelis style too. I am a Beyonce Kelis & RIhanna fan. Just saying I see stuff.

She was so surprised to see how quick we got them and she signed them all. Skip a few years and I win VIP TICKETS to FEFE and of course my daughter and I go again. Fefe's has always been the equivalent to someone like Avril Lavigne to me. Rihanna's style is also 'Rocker' but more on the Rocker meets high fashion avant-garde, meets afro punk, and urban streetwear. Her style incorporates alot more black fashions than Fefe. With their music Rihanna does pop, r&b influenced pop, reggae, Alternative r&b etc while Fefe is mainly just Rock

@@user-ci2sy5jb2j i can see that more.... Rihanna and Kells aren't very much alike to me overall either though everyone was dressing like Rockstars that rawr xd era but Rihanna's 'dark' fashion's leaned more and more towards elegance In a way Fefe or Kelis doesn't even now. Rihanna is more known for her detailing...her heels, extravagant jewelry pieces, purses etc. If anything Kelis and FeFe 'vibes' are little more similar not alot though but I associate Rihanna more with Madonna, Grace Jones with some Lil Kim

My guess is Fefe didn’t have the “personality” to deal with entertainment management. This is a characteristic in many passionate artists. She seems to have a powerful stage presence. She might have done much better as a song writer for other artists in her genre and taken a path like Tyler The Creator has done for his career. I don’t think Rihanna would knowingly steal from another artist. She was maturing and probably wanted to be more free as an artist. When it comes to depths entertainment higher ups might sink … that’s an infinite abyss. I had never heard of Fefe Dobson, so I went to check her out. I listened to “Stuttering.” It made me think of Umbrella. I learned that The Dream wrote Umbrella from something “that had been “looped” in the studio. He may or may not have heard something by Fefe. It’s a common practice by studios to collect a lot of music from great artists, whom they have no intention of pushing forward, and then putting it on a shelf until they need something “new.” They change it enough to keep from being sued and voila.
@Brainhoneywalker
@Brainhoneywalker 2 жыл бұрын
I just listened to a video here on KZbin, where The Dream is talking about how he created, “Umbrella.” It’s just a wild thought. I’m not presenting a conspiracy theory. I’m just sorting through available info and volleying between possible conclusions. Trying to make sense of something that doesn’t make sense: Fefe Dobson not being pushed into a star-studded career.

It wouldn’t make sense if they had Rihanna replace her and copy her, if Fefe didn’t even chart her two first singles for her sophomore album and was dropped why the the label try to duplicate her music/ style if obviously is wasn’t working. It would be like saying Fefe flopped let’s go head and make 5 more artist just like her, it doesn’t make sense. I think Rihanna just popped up around the same time but it wasn’t intentional

I don’t really think Rihanna jacked her style. There’s no rule that says only one black/ethnic female can dabble in rock music. And even with Good Girl Gone Bad, Rihanna’s music was still heavily pop. It wasn’t really until Rated R where some of the more deep cuts were Rock.

Fefe was just a biracial Avril Lavigne. She didn't stand out nor invented any look, every punk rock girl was dressing like that in the 00s, Ashley Simpson comes to mind and a list of Disney chicks. There was only a Rihanna comparison because she too was the other Black girl that could pull off the dark edgy look occasionally.

Rihanna been a culture vulture and follows trends. When LADY GAGA came out she had that rated r era wearing ridiculous things out of nowhere to stay on top because lady gaga was ending careers at that time and had this image and then you had katy perry wearing whip cream boobs and trees on her head and Rihanna wearing weird gaga outfits too aswell as nicki minaj they all ended up doing this once lady gaga hit with pokerface. Rihanna doesn't even write her own songs either i dont get the hype. No hate to her im sure she's talented but to be that big like someone was pulling them strings *cough*jayz*cough* because besides having a decent/marginal voice shes nothing special imo just a great marketing tool. The music is shallow and generic too

If you are a delusional and stupid fan, you should stay away from the internet, because people have a right to share their thoughts and opinions, just like in real life! or are you just dumb?
