Texas State Wildlife traded some turkeys and other game birds to Kansas or Missouri for some bucks several years ago. It was aimed to raise the size and quality of the Deer here. They also put the 13 inch spread rule into effect for a lot of counties and really cracked down on the poachers. 8-10 years ago a 120-130 was a great buck. But over the last few years it seems to be more common to see some bigger deer 140-160. I'm not sure if its better management by the state or hunters, maybe even the Breeder bucks we got years ago but its really starting to show.

It was a great move, from what I’ve seen as a lifelong resident of central Texas. The last 10 years have been a great experience as far as whitetail hunting goes. The antler restrictions made a world of difference!
