Used to live in a trailer home near by to work as a fry cook. An ice box in the winter and a sauna in the summer, but a free ski pass for the season was all it took. Wasn’t a great year for snow but had the best year for making friends and having the time of my life in a Colorado mountain town. Vail wasnt as friendly. Too many snobs…and out-of-towners ruined the town that it once was. Walked past the school house daily on my way to and from work. Thank You for the history lesson and nostalgia! Miss Colorado deeply. Hello from Maine.

@@Jordan__Sloan Ski Cooper outside of Leadville is good, been an age since the ski patrol saved my ass…tree bashin and bashed my knee. Hopefully Crested Butte kicks out the Vail developers from just showing up in their town. Last of the small town ski villages that keeps its charm. Eldora is OK…A Basin is a obstacle course of rocks.lol….Wolf Creek is great with epic powder runs..its a drive but worth it. Telluride is one of the best resorts next to Aspen…just bring your fat wallet….Vail can stick it😐 Colorado doesn’t suck…just its out of town greedy suits ruin it… 4x4 excursions, hiking, camping, fishing the summer….its a beautiful to live in…except in the metro areas with endless traffic, and ugly people storage units made of cheap materials asking over four times your salary. Ok…enough bitching. Enjoy!

When we were nearly through restoring the school, excavators uncovered the old saloon ash pit in back while putting in water and sewer. It contained many broken liquor bottles as well as some intact ceramic Scottish ale bottles. In addition, when the original floor fell out lifting the building, lo, there was the wine cellar. It is about 2/3 of the way back from the front of the building and in the center from side to side. I don't believe there is any doubt it was briefly a saloon.It's why there are no windows in the northwest corner. That was the bar.

It's not just cutting; because of climate change it no longer stays cold enough for long enough during the winter to kill off bark beetles, and they're killing all the trees
@metaglypto2 жыл бұрын
@@MissSeaShell Pine bark beetles do so much damage because we replant with a monoculture of trees in nearly every case. "Bark Beetles" do not attack all tree species, just like the white pine blister rust does not attack all species. I doubt that climate change has much to do with the bark beetles.
@MissSeaShell2 жыл бұрын
@@metaglypto no, it does. A single Google search is all it would take if you actually cared to know. Yes there are multiple kinds of bark beetle that affect specific trees. There are pine beetles, spruce beetles, etc. There are several reasons that warmer temperatures and shorter winters help beetles to thrive. The drought conditions mean the trees are more vulnerable, the beetles have longer active seasons so longer periods where they are attacking the trees and shorter periods where the trees can heal, and many other reasons as well. Why comment if you aren't even going to make the slightest amount of effort to see if you're correct or not? I was going to post links but I'm not sure if that'll make KZbin delete my comment. But it's only one 10 second search away. I believe in you, you can do it!
@metaglypto2 жыл бұрын
@@MissSeaShell Pine beetles attack SOME pines, and spruce beetles attack SOME spruce, they are not universal against ALL trees within that species. There are no serious threats from beetles to trees like Douglas Fir, Hemlock, Cedar, Redwood and Larch, not to mention the hardwoods being used for lumber. As for the problem with monocultures of plant species, "A single Google search is all it would take if you actually cared to know", as it has been known for probably a couple of centuries that a monoculture of just about ANY plant species, opens it up for insect and disease attack, not unlike the potato famine in Ireland that killed around 1.5 million people. Perhaps the longer summers and shorter winters have contributed to the insect attacks, but it is certainly NOT the only factor to consider. Mankind's forestry practices have contributed greatly, and planting monocultures of trees is one of the biggest contributing factors, not climate change.
@MissSeaShell2 жыл бұрын
@@metaglypto I truly don't know what your point is. Nothing you said negates what I said, which is that climate change is a huge factor in why the beetles have been so much worse in Colorado in recent years. It seems you just don't want to admit that climate change is affecting the trees, for whatever reason.

My name is Paul Kitzhaber. I was responsible for restoring the buildings in the Park throughout the project until the grand opening in July 1983. We began a year and a half before that. Bill's ranch, Bailey and Staley houses had been moved in and were on foundations. They all needed extensive restoration. The Ruth house and jail came later. The church and cabin came after the Park was complete. I didn't do them. The last to be addressed was the school. It had been used as an administration building for years, and had to be gutted of that and an addition. I had to recreate the old addition on the back using old photos. The school was raised two feet to meet the modern road level. I don't know about shady dealings. It was ready to go and you couldn't ask for better partners than Town officials at the time.

Thanks for your great work! Yes, the town admin is much better now than in the 1890s. They even took over the management of the park several years ago when the non-profit ran out of funds. The museum was only a saloon for a few years and the town bought it. How could a saloon go out of business in a place like Frisco during the gold rush? Makes you wonder. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frisco_Schoolhouse
