@@christiankallio8586 Just because it can, doesn't mean it is. I personally think 21st Century Breakdown can fit into that huge missing chunk of City life conflicts that happened with Jesus and Whatsername's during the mid-section of American Idiot's storyline. That part of AI's plot was too vague and undetailed. But so far as canon goes, Gloria and Christian from 21CB aren't the same characters as Jesus and Whatsername.
@jadedjimmy3 жыл бұрын
What always has intrigued me and (still does intrigue me) is how intentional every single line of every song on this album is. Like, with maybe the exception of Wake Me Up When September Ends, you know that every line is somehow correlated with the plot and and has either a metaphorical or literal meaning. Like, "The 7-11 to the fear of breaking down", or "Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed?", or "Try to fight fire, setting fire / is not a way that's meant for me" or "Forget me nots, second thoughts live in isolation / heads or tails and fairy tales in my mind", to name a few My point is that this album is chock full of lines that I keep re-discovering and realizing that I didn't give much thought to before. It all means something. And the way you perceive the album I think changes over time, but you're never at a loss for what you think it means. It's accessible but endlessly captivating.

I really have to agree that Green Day has got it right, the system, the government is very bad. I was born in 2004 and after that, I was born into a horrible world from then on. Everything is bad. Just a lot of hate all around the world 😔 it sad to think of.... Green Days American Idiot and Holiday album just basically illustrated how I saw the world.... I hope that what's occuring right now with the protests and the outbreak, things would change for the better.... But it's all in the hands of the people to take charge and get ahold of our freedom...

I didn't realize the band thought the list their edge I "Warning". I bought that album when I was 13 and I'm pretty sure it's the reason I ended up loving folk punk and 50s/60s music. Sure when I got older I realized parts of "Warning" was borrowed so heavily from the Kinks that it borders plagiarism (seriously the song "Warning", the title track and second single, is almost musically identical to "Picture Book" by the Kinks) but I still love it like I did at 13. It's one of the few green day records that's stuck with me my whole life so far. American Idiot is clearly heavily inspired by The Who's rock operas, similar naming conventions and song construction. I'm surprised you didn't mention that. I actually really like this record, but it kind of ruined Green Day for the next few years because they were constantly trying to do something *more*. More than a standard album, more than a standard rock opera, more than just 12 songs on one cd, etc. It's only recently they've rediscovered the joy and brilliance of 12 different 3-minute songs on one. In and out like a punk band should be.

Disappointed there was no mention of all the melodic and lyrical teases on this album. For instance at 2:23 in Jesus of suburbia the vocal uses the melody from summer of '69 by bryan adams. At 7:00 the melody is basically Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash and at 7:42 he says I walk this line, another cash song. The more rockin part of holiday at 1:52 is the same as the end (at 2:38) of minor threat's cashing in. There are a lot more examples too. I think St. Jimmy is a jawbreaker song but I can't remember. What's her name is the same chord progression as the wallflower's one headlight. I still can't believe I've never heard anyone talk about all this. It had to be intentional.
