During my maritime studies I used to be cadet there onboard back in 2002. Persons shown on this clip at bridge are Captain Carl Sviberg (1930-2014) and Chief Officer Seppo Ylitalo. Carl Sviberg was highly liked by his crew and extremely skilled captain to maneuver the vessel. He was allready retired legend when I was a cadet. Finnjet was the fastest conventional passengership in the world with top speed of 33,5 knots. Powered with Pratt & Whitney gas turbines similars as on Douglas DC-8 and Boeing 727 aircrafts, it was the first civil vessel with gas turbines and fourth in the world. It was also the first civil vessel in Finland and probably one of the first ones in globally with ECDIS navigation in the middle of the nineties. The christmas cruise mentioned on video back in December 2002 was my final trip as cadet. I visited as a passenger once more shortly before vessel left Finland last time.

This ship is nothing but legendary. When she was launched she was not only the fastest ferry of all time but she was also the biggest. She is also considered to be the first cruise ferry ever built. Her effort in saving the M/S Estonia survivors also can not go without mention. All of this, all of her impressive history and design just for her to be beached at Alang and not even making a profit of it. It is sad I never was able to go with her, and I think most people here could agree that she should have been preserved as a museum of sorts instead of getting scrapped

@@Theferryguy6648 overall yep, though in terms of conventional hull she was the fastest, along with that when she went into service she was the fastest ferry ever built

I have made several trip on the route Travemunde-Helsinki-Travemunde with the speedy gonzalez of the Baltic Sea. As a lorry driver i loaded a lot fruits and vegetables in Spain,Italoy and South of France for Finland. And from Finland we loaded a lot of garden peat in Eurajoki-Irjanne or Near Helsiki sugar-cubes for Spain. And we had always our weekly rest on that ferry. Nice and friendly crew, good food and the little swimmingpool are the things that stay with me forever.

It could do the trip Helsinki Travemünde in 22 hours. That meant it could sail every day at the same hour on opposite directions. Fir the comparison if you now take a trip on Finnlines to Travemünde it takes 30 hours. Also the current ships take a third of the passengers - even though they are bigger.

My younger sister got christened on Finnjet in 1996. We had a family friend who was part of the crew then and we sailed Helsinki-Travemunde-Helsinki many times in the 90's. The crew bar in the bow was nice. Loved that ship, it's a shame she got scrapped :(

Texts are hard to read as they fade away too quickly before I can fully read them. Best practice here is to read them yourself and add twice the on screen time.

Hi i am Peter ( Austrian ) was in this times Truck Driver for Sped. H.Winnen, Pilkington Glassworks Gladbeck, NRW. We, my Friend norbert and i where sailing 3 times with MS Finnjet to Katajanokka, Helsingfors. The Cabins for Truckers are very smal but ok for two night sleeping. But the entertainment in the the Bar was great, finally the Security put us out at 3 o`clock. Norbert foundt a girl from Goslar for love and her Mother slept in my Cabin. But the best joke was on the trip back. Under the Bridge, one deck down passengers can see in front, with some sciens of computers, about the route and weather. And the Joke of the night was an german tourist, 2 o`clock in the morning, der fragte : kann man das nicht etwas lauter machen. wenn man das auf der brücke verstanden hätte wäre die Finnjet ohne Autopilot for Lachen vom Kurs abgekommen. Best Friends of Europa, Suomi People, Kitos.
