Thank you for this. I recall in the 1980s and 90s before opening hours at the 5th Ave store the Star Spangled Banner was played over the PA while waiting shoppers were seated at the entrance behind velvet ropes. Thus each trading day began. And the traditional L&T logo is still one of the most dynamic and elegant. Sigh.

We deeply feel the absence of Lord & Taylor during the holiday season since its closure. We fondly remember the older Asian gentleman in the men's department at the Braintree store in Massachusetts, who was consistently helpful. It was our store. 😊

Lord and Taylor was my parents and in-laws store. It was a store which attracted customers of the silent generation and baby boomers. Their stores were of a more opulent and traditional elegance period in retail. The 1970s to the early 2000s. Those were better times in America when people dressed with more sophistication. As a GenXer I shopped there periodically beginning in the late 80s. With a changing America it was never a shopping destination for millennials and definitely not zoomers. Out of nostalgia I was sad to see it go.

best memories of this store getting new teacher clothes with my mom. such happy times. such great clothing at such great prices. very sad that they are gone and I just went to the website and now that is gone, too. I am actually crying. 62 in July and crying over this. the memories 🥰

Lord and Taylor, like Parisian and Von Maur, was between a Macys and a Neiman Marcus. But its issue was that it spread itself into areas where speciality and luxury retail weren’t really desired. It became another mid market, drowsy store with frumpy merchandise. If they reopened, their stores only need to be in class A retail centers

Lord and Taylor was one of my favorites, very luxurious and I always felt at home, I cannot say the same thing for Neyman Marcus and Nordstrom, I always felt that I was being followed(Skokie,IL).🙄

Saks ended LT with poor management they got rid of all LT employess with 20+ yrs of service then dove the company into the ground.
