I loved this story of your family. The best stories are from family to me. My dad grew up in the mountains of Pennsylvania, my grandpa owned land up there so the family could stay close. May's life started out hard. I was happy to learn that she had so many people who cared dearly for her. At least she didn't have to die alone. Aunt Lucy taught her brother-in-law, to never beat her little sister again, with her skillet. I have never had to use a skillet for protection. I'm well armed, because I have more than one skillet. My mama had a skillet passed down by her grandmother. Since my grandmother was born in 1888, her mother could have been Civil War era, but who knows I'd pay $50 dollars for a plate of pan covered chicken and taters, in that iron skillet my mama cooked in.
