I feel your pain. I just lost my 19yr old cat after her 19th birthday. I now have a five yr old male named Tigger whose previous owner had to go to assisted living. I volunteer at a cat shelter so I knew tge right kitty would happen. At first he struggled but after about 10 days he was in my lap.

It takes courage to fully love again. When our beloved Beatle, a shorthaired Swiss Mountain dog, had to be put down due to very advanced age we vowed to get another dog. The memories of our lives with him overwhelmed our grief. Beatle was our son's best friend through family divorce, moving, high school heartbreak, and the tearful goodbye of Army boot camp. Our son's service to Country before college had to come first. We didn't realize that 17 1/2 years was a rare blessing as canines go. Beatle was the only dog we had ever known and he was always there. Nearly blind with cataracts, all but deaf, it was the arthritis in his hips that was the reminder that despite the anti-inflammatories, if we truly loved him we had to do what's right. My son is married now. Graduated from college and an engineer for the federal govt. Each year that passes my husband and I say that "in the Spring, we'll get a puppy to housebreak". Beatle's leash still hangs on the hook at the top of the basement stairs. At our ages, we don't have the courage to have our hearts broken one last time.

So devastating when we lose our furry family. Recently we had to put down our 7 year old gingy boy cat became lymphoma. So heartbreaking 💔
