Player characters typically can’t exceed 20 unless they’re specific classes at max level, or have powerful and essentially one-time use items. An average person has stats of 10 across the board. 30 in D&D is essentially saying unrivaled genius.

Niv-Mizzet indeed is so close to being another Bolas, even having most of Bolas' colors in his base form, however I don't expect him to become a new threat but as a more direct counterpart to Bolas. While Bolas lost everything in pursuit of power to satisfy his own ego, Niv rose to power after embracing the complex care he has for Ravinca as a whole. I also do think Niv's opinion of planeswalkers will continue to sour overtime as his reign as living guildpact and Jace's reign are compared and contrasted, maybe even to the point of forsakeing becoming a planeswalker out of pride, as unlike Jace, he will actually be there for Ravinca. Of course I might be focusing on his red side over his blue side too much.

I do not think he was ever close being another Bolas. While his arrogance and plan making did rival Bolas’s, Niv never felt the need to prove it to anybody. He knows himself to be the smartest being on Ravnica and possibly in the Multiverse. His pride is too great to be influenced by the darker aspects of black.

@@draxthemsklonst Bolas wanted the subjugation of all. Mizzet saw his own kind as a threat, but once done with them he formed a legitimate(for him) bond with his guild. He hasn’t reached the paranoia that Bolas has, which keeps him from fearing those around him and lashing out.

niv is by far my fave character in magic his whole story is so deep and converluted and it just adds up just like a red/blue alined person should and I never get tired of hearing about him. Hopefully one day he returns as a planeswalker maybe in the next ravnica

That book was written basically for children and I just couldn’t follow the story anymore. I was even on a cruise with my wife to Mexico and I still couldn’t read it on a dam boat it was so bad. Vacation is relaxing!! That book didn’t help with that

He's the reason i gathered Ravinca Cards in the first place.. his guild furthermore dragged me into Ravinca as i love the way the Izzet Guild would act and work .. adding the fact that he would help defeating Bolas is also a BIG thing for me and cemented my alignment to the Izzet Guild even more ^^ I love Red and Blue Mana Spells, i like crazy idears and wild experiments conducted to find the best ways to serve the city in it's defence ... I've just started watching your channel here. I have to say, very well done so far. As someone who simply does not have time to follow up on these stories, it's awesome you've dedicated a chunk of your own personal time to share the wonderful world of Magic and other fantasy lore with us. I have to say though, I am disappointed slightly you seemed to omit two of my favorite pieces of the War of the Spark story. 1)During The Gathering Storm, Ral's Project Lightning Bug was done to track these energy phenomenon, but he kept the the truth about Planeswalkers specifically away from Niv-Mizzet. Silly little Ral believed himself to be the first Planeswalker the more than millenia old Dragon had ever met, and decided Mizzet would be too angry at the possibilty of worlds and knowledge beyond his reach. They had a talk, I wish Niv-Mizzet was more condescending on the child. 2)As Nicol Bolas took his first steps onto the plane of Ravnica, Niv-Mizzet did indeed launch an all-out assault on him, but one of the plans he had prepared for this moment was setting booby traps all over the city. Pockets of stored magical energies that he had readied to blast him all at once. This initial salvo of explosive damage didn't, obviously, succeed at halting Bolas' plans, but it was a perfect example of how a highly intelligent *Dracogenius* would plan for an impending invasion led by someone so powerful. Especially given Niv's extermination of other dragons on *His* Ravnica.

In my DnD game, after the invasion, I had Niv reverse engineer the Immortal Sun so that it repelled all planeswalkers from Ravnica instead of locking them there. Then he went about trying to fabricate his own spark. After two years of trying, he finally concedes that he can’t do it. Ironically, this admission of inability angers him so much that it actually ignites his spark! However, as this happens, a wave of energy from the Firemind erupts across the whole plain igniting a mini-spark in every person on the plain. Because of the immortal sun, everyone is propelled to a random plain for several minutes. Realising what he’d done and now incredibly powerful, Niv uses all of his energy and spark to reach across the multiverse, remove the mini sparks he had created and then send everyone back to Ravnica. In doing this, he dies. This leaves Ravnica once again without a Guildpact and with the loss of hundreds of thousands who happened to die during the event.

I got into magic by the time that return to ravnica came out. i remember i bought my first box and on the first booster he came out. I saw him and fell for the dragon instantly. so much that i used to run a standard deck with him in it. i was proud that i got to win a few games with it even though i was a novice at the time. Today i have a niv mizzet parun and reborn commander deck.

You know, I've been playing MTG non-stop for 12 years and I am fan of the lore. And yet, I wasn't aware of half the things this video explains. First of, hat's off to you, excellent video. 2nd; here's a novel concept: Maybe instead of pumping money into foils, WotC/Hasbro could, and here me out on this, produce something like a series, or maybe a show, to expand their universe and tell the epic lore of their game to a much wider audience than a card game alone ever could. I have recently gotten into mtg through mtg arena and I had no idea there was all this lore connected to the cards. This was written and performed and explained beautifully. Welcome to the channel and to MTG! It's a great game with rich, interesting lore and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. There's no right way to approach the lore, but it can get convoluted at times. Wizards has a story archive that releases small stories tied to sets which is a good place to start. I recommend finding a character or plane that you love and learn all you can about it, then slowly build up from there. The MTG wiki is a great resource. I think it would be cool if they did a flashback set to Old Ravnica. Just let it be high fantasy with a touch of what Ravnica will one day become. Each district could be a town/city that will one day all join into the City of Ravnica. Have a couple options of legendaries for each group with the Parun of each being among them

There are only a few fairly specific characters that I really care about storyline wise. Niv-mizit is one. Ajani, Dak Faeden, Karn, Nicole Bolas, and a few others are on the list but many of the characters are not even Planeswalkers but simply specifically named characters. Many of the characters I have the most attachment to are either because they have a great story attached to them or they have a great design. Some of the characters are something along the lines of I wish I could simply go to them and wrap them up in a massive hug and simply make all of their ills go away.

I have always loved Niv, mostly because it's nice to have a dragon main character we get to see a lot of who isn't trying to destroy all they touch. Ravnica has been fortunate he never had the black alignment, or even white to suppress or dominate others, content in his own, individual sense of worth and the admiration of his followers, no desire to spend his time ruling when he could be doing, whatever he wants. Honestly, I have to wonder if he'd have actually done anything untoward with the guild pact if he got it first, or if he just wanted to prove he was smarter than everyone. It's name, would probably change, the positioning of the guild symbols, possibly the size of one... That I'd believe he'd do. It, will be interesting to see what happens with him next. Three colours of mana he's never touched have suppressed his devotion to red and blue. Will the new touch of black teach him ambition like bolus, will his alignment to green and white convince him he ought not over assert himself or meddle in their natural order... A little sad to think though his personality might be so changed, as if he's not even Niv anymore

I guess that as the Living guildpact, Niv-Mizzet would never planeswalk away from Ravnica, just by being too implied in that plane. Manipulating other sparks furthermore would be within reach however
