Nuclear Power Demonstration (NPD) was the first nuclear reactor to contribute to the electrical power grid in Canada, demonstrating nuclear as a feasible energy source for Canadians. More than 50 years later, greater than 50 per cent of energy in Ontario is generated by nuclear power.
As NPD enters the planning stage for the end of its life cycle, we look back at where it all began with a video from the 1960s. For more information on the plan to decommission NPD, you can visit the NPD Closure Project's webpage at www.cnl.ca/NPD.
