I just wish women stop seeing themselves as the moral compass or moral standard for the whole society. Even modern women are guilty of it. It's so brave and refreshing for a political leader in Pakistan to talk about women's rights. I mean, there is strength and quality in this demographic now. What a time, what an important message! In all honesty, only women can save Pakistan!

It's worth noting that neither patriarchy nor matriarchy are necessarily ideal ways of organizing society, as they can both lead to imbalances of power and marginalization of certain groups. Some people advocate for more egalitarian social systems that distribute power more evenly among all members of society, regardless of gender.
@bloodbuddy7
@bloodbuddy7 Жыл бұрын
On what basis? You have made an assumption that matriarchy is merely inverted patriarchy with women at top. It isn't. Go study matriarchy in primate groups, particularly the differences between our closest animal relatives, chimpanzees (patriarchal, violent, aggressive, given to territorial disputes) and bonobos (matriarchal, cooperative, calm, quicker to learn tools and language systems). True matriarchy functions completely differently from patriarchy. Nurturance and sustainability are at the core, not female supremacy. 'Egalitarian social systems' sound all nice until you realized that because they are informed by hundreds of years of patriarchy, they are starting of from a fundamentally non-egalitarian basis.

31:24 Acquiring female slaves was obviously a motivation. But I'm not sure how you would prove that it was the primary motivation. The Akkadians were very warlike and they were present in the Mediterranean at this period in history when female goddesses were also worshipped. Even at the time of matrilocal merriage tradition, wars were quite common. Slaves were taken and weak tribes were plundered. Males were probably killed at the beginning because they couldn't be kept/controlled/domesticated as slaves by their captives. But women, without their men, would not struggle.

This does not mean that females are more valuable. It means that due to mother giving birth have accurate information of child whereas with father or men, recognition is ambiguous. How will one can find whom he/she belongs to. That is the reason the law of eddat عدت comes in with divorce and widowed women. To clearly find the father of the child. ماں سے بچے کی پہچان ہے. اس میں پردہ بھی ہے عا لم کے سامنے. I hope you understand the point.

I have a question. As you said that in ancient times of “jahalat”, women used to have a dominant role. Then societies started to evolve and we ended up with patriarchal culture. This means that when humanity started to evolve, people started realizing that women is not fit for majority of jobs (which were labor intensive and involved physical strength) and thus women ended up playing household roles. How can we say earlier times of “jahalat” were better for woman than the later times. Moreover, as you mentioned when man started to marry woman and take them to their homes thus women find it difficult to raise children and work at the same time, how can freedom (in this specific context) allow women to raise children and work as well? They can either be efficient worker or an efficient mother and raise children. Purpose of my questions is not to support patriarchy at all, I am asking to clear the misconception in my mind. Thanks

Only rich women could afford to be housewives with no other responsibility. Women in the past used to work but they had to choose between low paying work or prostitution. A lot of them would do unpaid labour on their husband's farm. In short, women have always 'worked'. The difference is that today, they have more career options.

To my knowledge, matrilocal and matrilineal societies were never the norm in historic times. Yes, they existed but in any point of the history the majority of the societies in the world were never matrilocal and matrilineal in fact it was the opposite. Felt like mentioning this only because the talk seems to imply that this was the norm, it never was. There used to be more matrilocal and matrilineal societies in the distant past than in the near past but at no point were these societies more in number than the counter part. Amazing talk and I look forward for such videos.

I think you have misunderstood. There are few matriarchal societies. But matrilineal and matrilocal societies were almost universal before the start of patriarchy. A matrilineal and matrilocal society is not necessarily matriarchal.
@aliwaheed906

@@Taimur_Laal I am aware of the difference that you pointed out. I based my theory on the fact that historically we know about 60-70 societies that were matrilocal or matrilineal. So, it seems highly unlikely that they were ever the majority at a given time.
