Mariner and Rafferty The dream season After far too long in Division Three, Plymouth Argyle finally returned to Division Two at the end of the 1974-5 season. Argyle finished runners-up to secure their promotion spot under the management of Tony Waiters.
Much of the credit went to strikers Paul Mariner and Billy Rafferty, who socred 46 league goals between them that term.
