To throw my own hat into the ring I wanna mention something: After Radar was given official captions there's some stuff hidden in them. As Nathan goes to open the door before the eye hall seen, these are hidden in the captions: " after he left, I heard the door unlock. I knew that it wouldn't open where I wanted it to " " but anywhere would be better than here " As Nathan goes up to the door in the eye hall room, these are in the captions: " after hours of limping, blood running from my open wounds, I found the door. " " It was just an old mattress they'd strung up to look like one. " " "I'm going to die here" " There maybe some more stuff hidden in the captions, but these are the ones I found when I rewatched it.

Also. Fun fact. There's something that Pastra forgot to mention but. The Face's scream actually comes from Pastra. In which it was before the video released. Lyra at one point asked Pastra to make the most horrifying and gut wrenching scream he could muster. And the scream from The Face in this film is a modified version of the outcome.

Actually I think Nathan wasn't in denial of his death, but instead was actively replaying and "retrying" the events before he was taken in hopes of avoiding his capture. I believe this because when Nathan reaches the door in the blue void he says; "I'm here again" and; "I was so close this time". This also ties into what Nathan says at the end, hoping to not be forgotten, possibly having a fear of such a thing happening. Furthermore, I believe the reference to the Sixth Sense wasn't reflecting Nathan himself coming to the realization he's dead, but instead reflects US coming to the realization Nathan is dead.

@scoopsropes6628 I suppose that's an argument. Why the vomit though? Blood and metal, sure. I think there's something to this. Maybe a gut injury in the wreck. I'm more inclined to consider murder, since it centres on his house and he was already dropped off. Or maybe he died and never got back? It's quite open to interpretation

If your theory is true, that makes the final line horrible. “Will I be remembered?” *”I made sure of it”* If Face truly took the form of Nathan’s killer, then yes. In a horrific, twisted way, Nathan will be remembered thanks to his killer. He’ll be remembered as the victim of torture. He’ll be remembered by the sadistic viewers who watched him die. He’s legacy in that room has been solidified on the internet forever.
@wachyfanning

That line kind of implies that Face IS the killer. Not just taking the form of the killer. "I made sure of it" makes less sense if it's only taking the form of the person who made sure of it.

Kinda building on top of that theory: Face could also a victim of a red room (maybe even of the same murderer) the way they heavily sympathize with Nathan and reassure him makes me think that they were through something similar. Also! The “only bit of footage saved” section could be footage of his red room torture and Face would be using it as a violent way to accept his death.
@jpking8885

To possibly add onto your build on perhaps the person in red standing behind the face while talking about whether Nathan will be remembered. could possibly be the killer, another victim, or maybe even that face and the red one were done together? Again just an idea and my two cents.

Adding on to that too. What's with the part where The Face (During the 3rd encounter with them.) proceeds to show an image of what seems to be someone's head exploding? That could represent The Face getting their head bashed in or possibly blown out with a weapon like a gun. (Or instead it could be a reference to the part where Nathan was trying to bash his own head in using the door as The Face seems to start manifesting a body beyond the TV screen.)

what if its not a victim but the killer themselves. punished with having to help every single one of their victims to move on before they themselves can. this would explain why face says "i made sure of it" when asked if he will be remembered, because the killer recordered and put nathans last moments on the internet, nathan will be remembered by the internet and people who watched nathan perish
@nightey975
@nightey975 Жыл бұрын
A certain detail you forgot to mention about your theory is that after we see Nathan try to break out of the Red Room, he tells us that only one clip of his recording was saved. In 7:45, we’re shown that Face escaped the tv, and Nathan is yelling at him to be left alone. Afterwards, it cuts to a weird distorted blue screen with a text saying “I tried banging my head against the wall until it split open.” This could probably be how Nathan actually died, after the events of his kidnapping & torture. His murderer could just be looking at him, laughing, as Nathan suffers & tries to scream for help. Banging his head against the wall, trying to escape, until he keeps on vomiting due to the smell, and his head gets split wide open. An additional detail to your fantastic theory.
@LenoxLamar
@LenoxLamar Жыл бұрын
Maybe his banging his head against the wall could also mean he wants to end it on his terms and wants the torture to end, like for example the killer went out of the room to take a break from torturing Nathan and in that time Nathan tried to end himself on his terms, but I could be wrong.

While a lot of analog horror has elements of death in them, I don't see too many of them deal with the experiences of being dead. Not in like haunting an animatronic or an old video game, but the pure existential terror around being dead. How otherworldly and soul-crushing it is to witness the very last moments of your life before joining the afterlife, if you even believe it exists. I think RADAR is a pretty good take on that concept.
@zackmultimedia
@zackmultimedia Жыл бұрын
In itself, the short does not portray much of the existential emptiness when dying, but rather the protagonist's refusal to do so, having to go through his last moments of pain, but it does a good job of staging those last moments.

There's one thing you didn't mention that has me wondering, what's with the deep blue sky and the people floating in it when Nathan gets the choice of continuing or ending the cycle? I have my own theory that that scene represents all his loved ones learning his death, or to get more specific, his funeral, with the sky painted a deep blue representing sorrow and grief while the people are his friends and family looking over his casket and grave. Face did say Nathan would be remembered, and I think that moment right before entering the abandoned house representing him finally moving on is of everyone that loved him lamenting his untimely death, looking down into the place where he was put to rest. Man I teared up as I was typing this, kudos to Lyra for creating something so moving, even though this is my own interpretation.

see as i was watching that segment i was wondering if the bodies floating in the air were meant to represent all of the times Nathan has gotten to that point in the loop but then gave up, and he and Face get to do another dance of Face trying to get him to wake up- the imagery of the bodies in the air reminds me of a corpse hung from a tree, which could be symbolic of all of Nathan (being dead)’s run throughs of this cycle getting cut short or, in other words, dying off

upon first viewing (and without watching the rest of the video admittedly), RADAR seems to be - at least to me - an allegory for an abusive household. it's probably a very surface-level read, but Face's unpredictable nature and lack of empathy or boundaries mirrors what could be seen as one kind of abusive and/or neglectful parent. the eyes in the walls and the door falling off the wall make it seem like your every move is being watched no matter what, and that leaving your room - even if you don't feel comfortable in there to begin with - could lead to much more horrific outcomes. what really solidified this for me was when Nathan went out with friends and seemed to have a great night, but as soon as he left the safety of the car, he felt afraid. even just standing outside of the home gave him a feeling of terror and dread, and to any child that grew up in an unsafe environment, that resonates heavily. just my take on it tho

Going along with Pastra's theory, I don't think he was kidnapped, but rather, he went to bed anf was woken up close to 3 by the sound of glass breaking, saw the national anthem playing, and was tortured, broadcasted, and eventually, killed in his own home, hence why it was abandoned, and why the pool of blood and stench of death were in his room.

A thing worth noting is the fact that the subtitles and the description have a bit more extra info, especially in telling us that Nathan is trapped in that room, that faces tv changes into something which is seemingly what makes Nathan vomit, and quite interestingly, during the eye hallway we see these messages fly on screen: "after hours of limping, blood running from my open wounds, I found the door", "it was just a old matress *they* hung up to look like one." and, in quotations, ""im going to die here.""

I interpreted it as someone with crippling social anxiety and depression trying to hold on, trying to get through life. Trying to have a semblance normalcy through their social interactions, Having seen the ending, I'd interpret it as him giving up and committing sudoku by the end, with the face, his depression, trying to get him to move on, letting him know that he will be remembered once he's dead. The eyes are what social anxiety feels like. As if you're being started by a million people. And the movie scene reminds me of my weekend with a friend of mine, where we went to watch a movie. I started rambling and getting nervous as time went, wondering if I'm saying too much or not enough, and after she left, I was left with a feeling that I had fucked up somehow. While being so close to having a normal interaction with another person. I guess we see things through our own depression tinted lenses.

Something that actually supports your theory is if you turn on subtitles for this video you get some additional details. Nathan has additional dialogue that references the fake door saying "they just put a fake mattress on the wall to look like one". This supports your theory and also confirms that there were multiple people tormenting him as he also said he was wandering around with open wounds for a long time which also supports the theory that he was being toyed with

If you line it up with Pastra's interpretation, what if it is a moment where the torturer was yelling at and taunting Nathan about escaping? What if the torturer had actually been slamming the door over and over while Nathan is chained down/too far gone to actually jump at the chance? Imagine your only escape being slammed open and shut over and over right in your face, so that it turns into something frightening rather than a beacon of hope??

It could be possible that Nathan was worried of how he was being remembered. If what you say about how he died is true then Nathan would be worried about how he would be remembered. Would he be remembered as pleasure for violence in his final moments of life? Would he be remembered as a victim of a murder? Would he be remembered by his friends? Also I actually wonder who face is or what it is. What's their motivation for doing this? Is it because it's their job? Is it because they are actually concerned that Nathan ignoring the reality is just going to put him into an endless loop? Are they doing it because they want to be friends with him? Well regardless listening to your theory makes me suggest you watch the ghost Nextdoor from Goosebumps if you haven't already. It's a really good episode.

And just so you know, I'm not sure if you noticed this but in the subtitles (which I happened to turn on by mistake and that's how I realised this) It says something about face opening the door to somewhere he was sure he wouldn't like. (The red room) And before he went up to the door, it said that after hours of limping with blood gashing out his open wounds, he found the door, which turned out to be nothing but "a sheet they strung up to look like one", before ending with the phrase "I'm going to die here." All that ties PERFECTLY to your theory. I'm now convinced that that's exactly what happened.

I'd personally like to think that Face is something like the Grim Reaper--they're there to help Nathan cross over to the other side, but Nathan's resistance creates a problem when the spirit has trapped itself in a cycle of denial and bargaining, unfinished business that Face has to help them get through before his soul can be laid to rest. And unfortunately its not easy or pleasant, because in Nathan's case it involves having to relive the events of his murder in order to understand that he is in fact dead.

Upon my own viewing I came to my own conclusion that he's actually trapped in an abusive household. I don't have much evidence aside from my own experience. The constant screaming, the foul stench, the filth surrounding you no matter where you look, the blood, feces, piss and vomit all over the floors, feeling like it's all rotting away. He has no hands, similarly to how some children from abusive households draw themselves as a way to show utter helplessness. Every day is just torture with no foreseeable end. The only moment of comfort and seeming normality is when he hangs out with his friends, only to be forced to return to that nightmare like he always does. The head slamming might also indicate self harm as a way to escape the phycological pain through physical one. Also the dreamlike sequence reminds me of how my parents would take naked pictures of me as a child for everyone to see and mock, but that might just be me... The ending in particular hits the hardest, when he returns to the abandoned household. The torture is finished. The monsters are gone. He got away, but he is still haunted by the memories of the past. But he has to move on. It is done. His suffering won't be forgotten, but he has to move on. ...I hope I'll be able to escape one day.

After all that you said in the video, I only have to add one thing to your theory. At the halfway mark, in the original video, Nathan mentions that one of his friends was playing Sonic Adventure on his dreamcast one night. Now, with what you mention in the video (that nathan was dead for the whole film) and the fact you cited, as evidence, the scene of Sixth Sense, I thought about that reference to Sonic Adventure. In all the campaings of SA, you're helped by this mysterious woman named Tikal, who helps you out during the game. Now, I can't remember if this is a plot twist or not, but you quickly realize that she's a spirit (in other words, She's been dead the whole time you'be seeing her) and that she died a long, long time ago. And paired up with the fact that she's also heavily connected with the antagonist of the game (A blob of water named CHAOS) and that, in the true ending of the game, she literally moves on to the afterlife with chaos (after centuries of torment), I think that the reference to SA is meant to be another clue (and foreshadowing) of Nathan's situation.

My problem is: If he was kidnapped and taken to a basement, why would he be stuck in his own house? I mean, wouldnt it make more sense for him to be stuck in the place he died? I think maybe the Red Room happened in his own house, which would explain the blood on the floor as wwell as the film primarily taking place there and the "Where are my hands" scene also being in his room. Just my theory tho.

Hey Pastra, for your theory, what would you believe to be Face? Are they the rational part of Nathan that he’s fighting which he knows he’s dead, how he died and that he needs to let go? Or is Face another Red Room victim who wants to move on but doesn’t want to abandon Nathan? However he/she is becoming frustrated with Nathan’s unwillingness to accept what happened (and therefore move on) so they’re both stuck in the loop “So for BOTH of OUR sakes, please make the right choice.” Or do u think Face could be something else

This reminds me of an old experience i had as a child. I was 5, 6 maybe? I'm not sure. But one night, probably at around 4 AM the TV flickered on. I don't remember most of it, but what i remember was a face. My father's face. Now i realize it was a mugshot. I ran upstairs to tell him about it, but someone else was at the staircase. A man with a top hat, white t shirt, and black dress pants. His face was covered in a shadow. All he said was "Hey kid, have you seen the television yet?" I didn't know who he was so i pushed past him, crying, and forgetting why i originally went up there for, said that there was a man in the house to my parents. Father grabbed the shotgun, and ran downstairs. Nobody was there and the TV was off. We still don't know what happened that day. I never told Father about the TV.

I know it's been a year and there is a remake in production, but after watching through this and then watching RADAR itself, I have a slightly different theory I think that the perpetual loop is meant to be about Nathan's struggles with drug addiction. We see hin smoking before getting in the car, and Sam asks about him quitting and he said that quitting is a strong word. It starts a few days before his supposed death in your theory, August 25th I think it was. The whole scene wih eyes and chains being symbolic of how he feels like everyone is looking at him, like he's always being watched and chains because he feels trapped. The scene where he doesnt have any hands being about how he feels unable to escape, and FACE being a representation of his suicidal thoughts and feelings. He goes out with his friends because he just needs to get out of the house and back with people he knows. We find out that he's pretty broke, so this being a cause or a consequence of drug addiction would make sense. And returning back home, everyone seemingly disappears. He talks abiut trying to avoud this. He feels alone, and is stuck in a cycle of trying to avoid his suicidal thoughts and always ends up returning because he really doesnt have much, and FACE keeps convincing him its be better like this. He opens the door, finally deciding to face reality, and sees that is house that he barely calls a house is trashed, and he's afraid if dying because he's afraid no one will remember him or care but FACE convinces him that his suicide will ensure that people remember to think about him. And after years of struggling with this, on September 1st 2009 he finally commits. That's my theory anyways. I saw another that it's about abusive households, and obviously yours as well, I just love how one singular video can have so many different interpretations, it's so fascinating honestly. I'm gonna rewatch and see if I can find any other interpretations >:3

It’s very Fascinating and terrifying to see how a person can experience the horror and terror they’ve seen while being dead. Not to mention the entity being able to leave the Television while still haunting the individual. This type of horror is a work of art that not a lot of horrors has made so far, from Mandela Catalogue to Vita Carnis to whatever series or video contains terrifying scenes and storytelling. It’s always interesting to see things that can not only make sense to how these incidents even happened to how they ended up being in a situation where no one can escape. We love the explanation on this video and we hope in the future we see more horror like these with more people theorizing different stories from different series or videos of horror media.Keep up the good work and always have a wonderful day 👍 From: Lost Media Archives Inc.

Hey, I just saw your video in the KZbin recommended after watching the short film. I'm just going to leave my own interpretation here as I did on the actual Radar video. It's so cool see how our interpretations compare and contrast: This _thing_ is some of my thoughts while watching/analyzing this video on my second watch through. Given more time I could probably make some more conclusions, but I want to leave this open for people to discuss. I will try to check this thread every once in a while. I would really appreciate people's thoughts on this cool piece of art and attempt at analyzing it! Sorry if its hard to read, its literally my stream of conscious as I watch the video again. *The face is Nathan's urge to abuse some substance -> first line "Can you hear me" -> grabbing Nathan's attention -> "It's you again." ~Nathan -> FACE keeps reappearing -> addiction -The face is an invader in Nathan's home -> character's homes generally represent their conscious/mind (think the movie 'Memento') -> Nathan says "Can you please go away" also can't break the T.V. -> i.e. can't break the habit -The face causes Nathan to vomit and vomit is brought up repeatedly -> vomiting is a result of nicotine especially among first time users -When asked "What are you?" FACE says "Lonely" -> Nathan substance abuse comes from the desire to fit in? -> fit in with Aiden? +Nathan's substance abuse somehow has to be connected to Aiden, the only other person who wants to "light up" -2:39 -> the urge to use is getting worse -> 3:07 Nathan tries to ignore the urges -5:57 Addiction has a hold on Nathan represented by the hand coming out of the T.V. *The face is Aiden's face, the other friend that abuses whatever substance -> Aiden says "Are you going to let me hit that (or whatever the quote is)" -> The face reminds Nathan of someone *5:31 "He" is Aiden -> When Nathan and Aiden are done using the substance Aiden leaves and a new path (door) in Nathan's life unlocks -> this path is the path of addiction and substance abuse -> "I knew that it wouldn't open where I wanted it to" -> Nathan is aware of the dark path he is embarking -5:35 ish whatever this substance is it's clearly a form of escape for Nathan -> a lot of people get high or play video games because they want to escape from their reality *5:50 Nathan is addicted now he pays for his choice -Nathan is clearly ashamed of himself and afraid of people seeing him, but who is he afraid of seeing him? -> it's probably not just one person like his mother or something because there are many eyes +What does the camera represent? -6:06 Nathan has hope, he sees the light at the end of the tunnel, (represented by the door) but is betrayed by it. -> Where does that hope come from? What exactly betrayed him? -The sound of chains is present -> Nathan is chained to this substance or whatever -> addiction *6:40 When Nathan is betrayed by hope he is reset to worst of his addiction -> 7:04 Nathan is completely hopeless, he has lost the ability to save himself -> he loses his hands -> Nathan slams his head against the bedroom door -> he would die if it meant he could escape his addiction *7:25 ~ 8:04 The physical side effects of Nathan's substance abuse and the evermore present need to use *13:05 Once again Nathan has a big choice to make, but why is it so easy this time? Why does Nathan all of a sudden get to choose whether he breaks the cycle of addiction or not? -Maybe Lyra is trying to show us that the choice to sober up is a simple one and there is nothing for you if you choose to succumb to addiction, but it really isn't that simple, you don't just choose to stop being addicted. +Why does Nathan never have to fight for his freedom, why is it just given to him? *14:04 Nathan again asks: "What are you," but gets no response -> Its like Nathan is alone again -> there is no one to respond to him -What does this mean??? *14:46 Nathan sobers up and is forced to accept what he a lost because of his addiction -> His home/mind is run down and damaged, but still there. *What does FACE mean by "I've made sure of that"??? //It's cool that Lyra uses these flash of subtitles to represent Nathan's subconscious/gut feelings //It doesn't make sense that the substance being abused would be nicotine as I don't think nicotine causes you to be trapped in your own mind like Nathan seems to be -> Nathan being trapped in his deteriorating home could be allegory for his downward spiral of self loathing? -> no real evidence lol //I take it that we are never shown exactly what Nathan is addicted to because Lyra wants us to insert our own vice into that spot //6:25 I wonder if a mattress specifically is used here on purpose? On the note of the door being the 'light at the end of the tunnel' it would be very relevant to Nathan's story if the mattress was ment to represent something. //8:01 I wonder if Nathan's head going through the door has any relevance to what's happening, probably, but I can't think of it -> or I'm misinterpreting the line //I know for sure there are other symbols that I'm missing -> like why the 6th Sense specifically? -> I have been told that any time another media is mentioned it has some attachment to the story, but I don't know what! It would probably help if I had watched the movie lol. -I just finished your video and wadaya know I was right, it definitely would have helped to have watched the movie lmao. It's crazy how just one detail can completely change the interpretation of something. I'm now a believer in your theory, but I still think there is some merit to my own interpretation.

This kind of horror is what "gets me". I have not seen people die in front of my eyes, nor have I yet experienced a near-death experience. But I do not fear death, nor do I empathize with people dying. (Edit: Of course I do to some extent, I just don't take it as conventionally serious as most people do.) I think that to some extent, it is overblown in the general sense nowadays especially. What I do fear, and what truly makes both my blood boil and my skin crawl - is entrapment of the mind. Stories of people not treated like people, like lesser beings than slaves, stories of people's brains being in denial of death, in unnaceptance of the now unavoidable. Manipulation, hypnosis, tales of parasytic infections grabbing hold of a person's thinking. That's what terrifies me. What comes after death is a different discussion, but no bodily harm, no limb-tearing action even BEGINS to compare to the TWISTED stories of people's brains, consciousnesses and minds being trapped in an eternal state of control loss over their own being. There are many things in the universe that are out of our control, so when the only thing we have relative control over, get's taken over as well - that's when things get horrifying for me. Forcing someone to go through torture, capture, forcing people to go against their own will. Messed up.

I noticed a lot of people in the comments mentioning to watch it with subtitles so I did. They talk about the hallway scene and the hidden text there. Which is very interesting but I haven’t seen many mentioning something I think is pretty disturbing. The night Nathan tries to ignore Face, after Face reacts and the camera I knocked over, the subtitles say (Face begins to play footage from I think Face shows Nathan footage from his own torture in the Red Room. That’s why he reacts by pleading Face to stop and vomits. Which is just so horrific.

I’m not quite sure what I believe the overall story to be, but I think it’s more than reliving the trauma, it’s more of flashbacks. The reason I’m distinguishing this is because often the way our brain views trauma is warped, think how most ptsd nightmares aren’t direct reenactments of the trauma, but more take pieces of it, (let’s say you were in a car wreck where you watched a friend die) you may have dreams of a car eating people, maybe a person dying, etc, those are both ptsd nightmares but not exact. This isn’t a purgatory made as punishment, it’s not to relive it, but it’s to process what happened. He may have not died but been irrevocably changed or injured (although death makes more sense to me). Face isn’t making this, he is, it’s why it’s warped, he may not remember it right, it’s why the exact place he was taken doesn’t make sense. He stops outside his house door, that’s where everything changed, not his bedroom door, despite that the story remains in his “room”, and we can see something happened there. He can’t remember correctly, he had to have been hurt in his room, quite badly, there’s a lot of blood for something that was a minor injury, he may have lost his hands there, prompting his to have to go. He may have been blindfolded and therefor didn’t know what his death site looked like, we never see it, only things he could interpret (stone especially basement stone has distinct feelings, he’s being watched, maybe the people are there, maybe they’re somewhere else but if his captor was talking he probably heard them) there’s nothing behind the door despite the fact he would’ve seen going down. Why is the torture and memories warped un-precise and in his bedroom if he didn’t die there? He may never have seen the other place all he knows is it started in his room. The person may have already been in the home, that would make more sense as to why it stops at the house door instead of the bedroom, his home was already compromised.

Absolutely love this take, but I think Nathan being killed in a "Red Room" specifically doesn't work out. Irl Red Rooms do not exist, there is no service on the dark web that would work like Twitch or host a livestream. It would take way too much bandwidth and be very obvious. What I think happened is that Nathan was used to make a snuff film. Snuff films undoubtedly exist, a film being made of the torture and killing of a person with the specific intent to be sold and make a profit. The portrayal of Nathan having no hands reminds me of Funky Town Gore and all the mentions vomit gives off Slaughtered Vomit Dolls vibes. I think it would be more morbid if Nathan was killed for a snuff film, killed specifically to make a profit with no other intent. Amazing video as always Pastra Edit: Funky Town gore is real and you shouldn't go looking for it unless you're into actual gore media. Also there are no recorded cases of Snuff films existing, but there are cases of them being produced but their creators were caught before they could sell the movies

I have a feeling 4:15 is when the killer broke in and kidnapped him, You usually can't remember times you've never seen, but if Nathan was alive and awake at 4:15 am he very much could've remembered, since its the last date/time he could remember being being brutally tortured and murdered, It could also be the time he was reported missing as neighbors usually can hear stuff like glass breaking, especially since some people wake up around 4 - 6 am (for jobs) someone could've gotten worried and reported the sounds to the police, and he could've been marked missing at 4:15 am

I just found this a few hours ago, but on my first few watches my theory is that it was about Nathan having killed himself. The encounters Nathan has with Face are representative of different coping methods, with the form that Face is taking being that of a distorted version of himself. This makes the "lonely" line about himself, and the end of the outing with friends were he was "so close this time" was because he had been close to driving away his suicidal thoughts by being with friends. It also makes the encounters with Face represent him tormenting himself and trapping himself in a cycle of depression, self hatred, etc. My theory on the ending is a bit shaky, but I interpret it as either the fact that he left a 'note' or that he will be remembered by those who were close to him, the line "i made sure of that" meaning that he had left his mark on those people, or in a darker way that those people would always wonder why.

I genuinely had no idea RADAR existed before this, but now that I've seen it I gotta say it's one of the most disturbing things I've seen in recent memory. I absolutely love the film and this theory because of how well thought out and thorough both are. Great vid, thanks for introducing me to this all!

I personally think that RADAR could be a type of metaphor for moving and trauma. It's a very sloppy theory but hear me out. It's possible that Nathan had been attacked in his old home (the abandoned house) on Tuesday September 1st, 2009, and so he had moved to a new house. His friend dropped Nathan off at the house that night, but Nathan couldn't get the previous house out of his head because of the trauma. I think that the TV Face is on is the only item Nathan brought from the old house to the move to the new house. I think the TV is what Nathan was watching before he was attacked, and that's why things like Sixth Sense and the national broadcast came on the TV, because after those two showings was when the attacker had broken in. It's why they're both stuck in a "cycle", because Nathan can't cope with the trauma, and Face is trying to bring him back to reality. It's also why Face is at the abandoned house as well. Nathan tries to ignore the tragedy and his past, as well as Face. The room smelling of flesh and corpses could have something to do with Nathan's attack. I think that the attacker may have possibly done something to Nathan's hands, and now he thinks that the attacker might come back and do more harm, or take his hands away, which is why they're gone during that sequence. More evidence for this is that the hallway with the eyes could be Nathan's paranoia, perhaps the attacker might come back. I think the attacker may have also broken into Nathan's home and taken a picture of the aftermath of Nathan's abuse, implied by the "Smile for the camera!" message. I think Face confronted Nathan about this trauma or "cycle", and it's why Nathan goes back to his old house. It's to accept what happened to him. Like I said, it's very sloppy, but it's just my personal theory.

This short has a unique way of scaring people Imo. At first you get freaked out by the super scary (skeleton) monster from the TV, the grotesque imagery, but then it all suddenly gets interrupted by Nathan hanging out with his friends and then the dialogue with The Face, as you realise that everything that you've seen, the entire thing, is just Nathan's post-death experience. The scene of him chilling with his pals makes this revelation even more heart-breaking, because we see that Nathan has someone to care about, someone that would mourn over his death, just like you. After the first watch the thing that stood in my mind the most was the ending itself. Although it's supposed to be a moment when you can chill from the freakshow before, it genuinely freaks me the hell out even more than what happened before. Nathan's dead, that's it. He's no more. He fell out of the world, with the Face, who has been his only companion, vanishing. No ties to the world, nothing. Absolutely nothing. That's why I love existential horror. It sits in your mind for a long time and makes you question the stuff that's been going on in your life. Provides a new look at it. Makes you appreciate it even more because you are still able to take a breath and enjoy the things around you. I really love this short, it's amazing.

This is grate! Sooo amazing, and I love the reference to the red room, as I like the concept of it, but as a lets stop it from happening sort of sense. One of my favorite songs is inspired by the red room anyway, the red room-camellia. Super good vid and amazing story!!

My theory is that he did go through the red room, but was rescued and was in a coma slowly dying. During the struggle for life an angel was sent to help him out of the coma and into the afterlife. During the scary sequences it was a demon/the devil trying to keep him there by making the angel seem scary. The end was his ghost going to his house one last time before passing away. All of the floating bodies were the angel showing him all of the other people stuck in the nightmare he was experiencing.

i 100% agree with you. from the dates to the red rooms. i agree. the colors, the choses of eyes being involved, it all works with the story. one thing you did miss was the shadows of people floating above the door. i think they are the time lines in witch our protagonist refused to go into the door and end the loop.

My theory is that the actual video, is how he is remembered. FACE gave US this video so we could remember him. which is why there's a timestamp at the end, giving us the knowledge of when this ended.

That was a great watch, they did a wonderful job on this video. Absolutely horrifying, great theory as well. I really like what another poster said, saying how he was trying to re-live the moments to prevent the capture, since he seems so aware of "Play" he was in when he turns around and says "I was so close this time." It's funny, because the line "WHERE ARE MY HANDS" to me felt like the horrific version of when you look down in a first person view. Imagine if you looked down right now, and you didn't see your feet. What if you covered your face, only to be unable to see your hands? It's that idea of a disembodied soul being unable to see their own body parts, and freaking out as they don't even realize they're dead. However, I really like the idea of his arms not even being there because they were cut off. That adds a new level of horror to this whole experience.
