Am I alone in thinking that life in wartime had so much more meaning? I look at people today complaining of "stress" when they have to wait 5 mins for a coffee, the people we call "heroes", an overpaid footballer with the IQ of a 9 yr old, even the music, a mixture of jungle grunts and foul language called "rap" and the main excitement coming from playing with pictures on a tiny piece of glass!

I'm sure early 1940s jazz attracted some level of negative stereotyping too. Life in wartime could be carefree and escapist, not everything was conservatively stoic and dour.
