#Rush #RushDocumentary #geddylee
This is the story of Rush, a canadian rock band that, in my opinion, has covered every musical bass and more. Comprised of Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart, Rush has explored progressive, soft and hard rock amongst other genres in their 41 year career.
update:
Neil has since tragically passed away after a three year battle with cancer. RIP.
Rush was a Canadian rock band formed in Toronto in 1968 by guitarist Alex Lifeson, drummer John Rutsey and bass guitarist/vocalist Jeff Jones, who was immediately replaced by bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee. After Lee joined, the band went through several configurations before arriving at its classic power trio lineup with the addition of drummer/lyricist Neil Peart in July 1974, who replaced Rutsey four months after the release of their self-titled debut album. This lineup remained intact for the remainder of the band's career.

Right...How can a true RUSH fan choose just one song, to be their favorite? I have favorite RUSH songs, from each of their eras. Although, I believe that there is nothing better than hearing them play One Little Victory, live in concert. Unfortunately, that will never occur again. The passing of the professor was a true loss to a whole lot of people. And he never would / could be replaced by anyone...

These are grandsons of great musicians and great societies of the past, same with British musicians. That's why a few have the talent of great musicians even when their young. It's interesting to me how closely related to classical music some of these bands were, such as Yes, Rush, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Led Zepplin, Moody Blues, Frank Zappa, Van Halen, etc. You can hear it in the way they change keys, and take off from various key centers with ease like a bird jumping from branch to branch. It's already inside their mind for them to reveal with less effort than you might think. It always just sounds so great.

Same time period , Totally different story , I was 9 staying at my grandma's , all my aunts and uncles grown and out of the house cept 1 , he was the baby and like 10 yrs older then me, I was leaving my aunts room , thats where we stayed when staying with grandma , uncles room right across the hall , I start to head out to do whatever a 9yr old does, I hear my uncle yell for me to come here , He's getting ready for Rush concert and jamming to Caress of steel , Telling me how this is the best band ever etc. etc. , I try to leave but he makes me sit down and says you have to listen to this song first , He pulls out a record and puts on Bytor and the snowdog , 1 song cool no problem , Did not know it at the time, but I would eventually fall in love with this band to , around age 12 also I declared Rush my fav too. , 2112 , Exit stage left , Moving Pictures Yeah I was hooked , Same uncle took me to my first ever concert for my conformation , I will never say I'm Rush biggest fan (My Uncle) but they are is and always will be my fav. , Bytor and the Snowdog is my Fav. just because of the sentimental behind it , also because its the first song with Niel and in it you can feel the ride Rush was going to take you on , It's like "stick with us ,your about to go on 1 hell of a journey".

I believe we should bring back the concept album and challenge our listeners and nit push out easy listening crap

Epic band, I saw thirty of their shows. The song I always come back to is Limelight, somehow it has always spoken to me. Their lexicon of music is legend and I love all of it. The loss of Neil in 2020 was a hard hit. Besides being the god of drums, Neil was their lyricist and wrote amazing books. Rush was unlike any other band. They walked alone in the halls of music. The one thing that can still be said of Rush, since they are no longer are making music, is that they have to this day, the most loyal fan base of any band ever.

I’ve been a fan since the early-mid 1980s, just after Moving Pictures exploding and Signals was in the works. Listening to The Garden gets me a little nostalgic for the early years of my life when I first discovered this extraordinary band. It’s a little bit like losing an old friend, there’s a real sense of loss associated with knowing that it was over. Then, Neil passed away, suddenly to those of us on the outside, and it really was over. It had absolutely been over once Neil was diagnosed three and a half years before he passed. The man was a real inspiration to me when I was learning to play drums in the mid to late 1980s. I spent a lot of time alone in my bedroom listening to him on those great Rush albums, playing The Trees, La Villa Strangiato and Natural Science among all the others. Neil’s effect on me was profound enough that it lasts until today. In fact, I just played a show a few hours ago and I thought of Neil during a conversation I had with a member of the audience while I was on break. I don’t play much like him, but there are elements of my playing style that can be traced directly back to a specific Rush album, haha…I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to grow old with them…👍

Excellent video of my favorite band ever... I actually prefer their older music and consider the entire 2112 album to be their ultimate masterpiece. 👍For reference I am 59 years old.

Absolutely excellent job. May I be a bit anal about one thing? John Rutsy wasn't fired for missing too many rehearsals. He was honest about his health issues, and that led to a tough decision made in his best interest. It was loving, not punative. Again, though, outstanding job.

To select one song from their entire catalogue would be impossible; each carries a germinated core of brilliance, coupled with the fact that from a progressive point of view, RUSH have known many stylistic changes & dynamics thoughout their tenure - each chapter bringing its own flavour. For myself as an ardent RUSH fan, I have never considered them (the band) to be pidgeonholed by one specific genre - which is precisely the point: They're indefinable (& rightly so)....Thank you for forty one years of dedication !!

What strikes me about the RUSH story is that it is one of Metamorphosis and Rebirth. They started as a capable, morphing, undefinable worm -- rough and ready, experimental, asserting their unique style (2112) on everyone (including the record companies), and became a beautiful, furry, exotic caterpillar! Then personal tragedy ended the caterpillar's life as we knew it. Curling up to self-isolate and self-protect, RUSH cocooned for five years - silent, fighting inner demons, on personal intellectual journeys (Peart, a modern Odysseus!). With Vapor Trails, the cocoon bursts open (One Little Victory, Ghost Rider!!!) -- and an astoundingly beautiful confident butterfly soars magnificently above our human highway (The Stars Look Down, Vapor Trails, Secret Touch!!). "There's a shadow on the road behind...there's a shadow on the road ahead" the butterfly is headed east over a day on a motorcycle - the wind blows away memories and demons -- we know this, we have done this. Listen to those instruments -- fused! I love the Vapor Trails album. I rate it even higher (based on its affect on me) than the biggies (Moving Pictures, Permanent Waves, Hemispheres, 2112). Mature, profoundly human, sublimely driving rock!

Red sector A to me is one of the best rock futuristic songs I've ever heard. The song is timeless and runs chills down my spine every time I listen to it .A great remembering story about the holocaust era, about the pain and suffering that the Jews encountered by the hands of the Nazi regime.

Nice summary of their career. Ha, first rush song I learned was "What you're doing" back in high school days. My drummer in my band was from Michigan, they were big there first. Great stuff even greater after Peart. My favorite album 2112. Favorite song? So many. Maybe tied between working man and the first side of 2112. Not a lot of bands could match the vocals but some awesome music to be inspired by.

Its so hard to pick a favorite song from them i love everything to signals . After signals I didnt really follow them to much . If I had to pick one song..... it would br Xanadu, but there are so many . I think 2112 is just brilliant and not just the first side of the album , the whole album is just awesome

I can’t choose so here’s a list of kickass tunes. - Finding My Way - What You’re Doing - Working Man - Anthem - By-Tor and the Snow Dog - Fly by Night - Bastille Day - 2112 - Xanadu - La Villa Strangiato - Freewill - Jacob’s Ladder - Everything from Moving Pictures - Subdivisions - The Weapon - The Enemy Within - The Body Electric - The Big Money - Manhattan Project - Marathon - Force Ten - Time Stand Still - Roll the Bones - Stick it Out - Leave that Thing Alone - Caravan I’m not familiar with every single Rush song (especially 90s onward) so if I didn’t mention your favorite song, it’s probably a great song that I’ll have to check out.

My best friend loves early rush. Ladt few years he is expanding himself finally. He is a huge sports fan. So imagine how much (i patiently waited 2 years) i enjoyed cramming leave that thing alone down his throat. It is what they used to cut to commercial for atlanta braves games for bout 10 years. He still is distraught. Just really pissed i set him up for that fall so long
