This was of course pre-VHS, and this is all we had. Played this one so many times (along with the Star Wars soundtrack. In 1980 (again pre-VHS) a classmate in college had secretly taped the movie in the theatre with a tape-recorder. We listened to that in drawing class and marvelled... "Wow! This is Star Wars!".

OMG!!!! I can't believe I found this on KZbin. I had this in 1977 or 78 when I was like ten. I didn't have a record player in my room but my sister had one on hers and I used to go in there and play this when she wasn't home. I loved this and never thought I'd ever hear it again.

Wow! I played this so much as a kid, it had a scratch at the Tuskan raider attack part. It would play all night while I slept, skipping on that one part. To this day it still comes back looping in my head.

Back in the 70's, at about age 9 and 10, I used to sit on my bedroom floor and play this record with the storybook on one side and the deluxe Marvel Comics adaptation of Star Wars on the other. All of my Star Wars figures would be assembled nearby. I would page through both the storybook and the comic along with the record, occasionally acting out key scenes with my toys. Before the days of VHS it was the only way I could get my Star Wars fix whenever I wanted!

This album was sitting beneath the tree for me on Christmas Morning 1978. I was so excited. I loved it. There were also several Star Wars action figures and a Tie Fighter for me under the tree. But don't think it was all cool stuff...there was also a set of Aquaman Underoos there for me. LOL.
@Rob-dp3vr4 жыл бұрын
Damn, I think I might have been you. I eventually had every figure, ship, and land. Also had Batman Underoos, and this record. I also have some wookie song on record. I was 7 in 1977.

Thanks - brings back great memories - can still recall the narrative! Although it's cool today to watch Episode 4 (when desired) in stereo, looping the favorite scenes and catching all the DVD extras, it was much more exciting just visualizing the action from what you could alone hear. For what little material of the flick was available back then outside the movie theater, this LP was a treasure. The opportunity to hear it again is appreciated.

I still have this album. This is the original 1977 LP release of the “Story of ‘Star Wars’” on the 20th Century Fox label after they switched its label’s design from 20th Century Records back to 20th Century Fox Records. The label features the logo like the one used in movies that was on there where it was used right up until the label folded by the end of 1981 where it was bought out by PolyGram in 1982. This album features the “20th Century Fox Fanfare” (0:00) by Alfred Newman from 1953 like the one where it was used at the beginning of every movie from 20th Century Fox, except for “Star Wars” films. This was the only time they used it for the album. When it was later released on the Buena Vista label in 1983, the “20th Century Fox Fanfare” was omitted from later reissues. Thanks to Disney who now owns 20th Century Fox and this legendary 1953 fanfare by Alfred Newman for this album.

What do you people have against the new Star Wars movies? I think they're great. So do all my friends. Of course, we literally grew up with Star Wars when it was new. I've noticed that it's the younger people always complaining. What were you guys looking for? We older fans think it's true to the original vision, and a million times better than the prequels.
@jedijones3 жыл бұрын
@@lordmikethegreat No we don't. I was born in 1976 and think Disney's handling of the franchise has been disastrous. You bring back the old cast and don't even let Han and Luke meet again? Give me a break. The movies were made by people who don't understand or appreciate Star Wars. The basic storytelling of the movies is confused and deeply flawed. It wouldn't even be worth putting the stories of Episode 7-9 on albums like these because the stories are so incomplete and unsatisfying.
