Madara Senpai It's rough on us. Sure you can buy an everdrive, repoduction cart and that stuff, but the quality cart is expensive. My advice, get a job and slowly accumulate money to afford a game here and there. Try and find deals in flea markets, Goodwills and places like that if you can. Sometimes you could negotiate prices in a mom and pop retro store if you're lucky. Worst case scenario, emulate it. If you REALLY want to play it, that's the cheapest way I can imagine.

Same for me but with Paper Mario 1 and 2 but sadly on every other Mario RPG video I saw it was full of people who LOVE the Mario RPGs but couldn't even care for Square, Final Fantasy or Turn Based RPGs so for them the Mario RPGs is the only type of RPGs they enjoy and honestly when it comes to Super Mario RPG vs TTYD and the Mario and Luigi series I remember a reddit comment that honestly describes it well "People who love the Mario franchise will enjoy TTYD or Mario and Luigi more People who love JRPGs and Final Fantasy and don't mind a bit of Mario will enjoy Super Mario RPG more M&L and TTYD feels like a Mario game while Super Mario RPG feels like a Square game" and for me when it comes to Mario RPGs I prefer Super Mario RPG now because I feel like the pacing feels better in RPG compared to other Mario RPGs like TTYD where I feel it kinda holds your hand a bit for me my favorite JRPGs is kinda a tossup between EarthBound and Final Fantasy IX for me rn but may change over time

@varkey42 Because there were different laws about videogames. And in Europe, at the time, the console worked at 50hz due to PAL standard, so gameplay was slower but, at least they could fix music timing. At the time release an rpg in europe in only english language was not a wise idea, because many countries can't understand an heavy spoken game. In fact till Final Fantasy 7 jrpg were not popular in Italy, because the first gaming generation of children (born in the at the start of 80's) didn't know enough well english until late 90's and the localization in italian language was a rarity. I suppose it is the same for other non english countries.

It really had a way of triggering my brain's reward center, as there were all sorts of cool permanent power ups and pieces of equipment to find if you were thorough. The combat system was slick. The story was interesting, too: It sort of takes a left turn at the end and gets a bit dark. It's a shame Geno never became an iconic character; he's a total badass.

I'd say Paper Mario is probably a spiritual sequel in one way, while Mario+Luigi is a spiritual sequel in a different way. Like Mario+Luigi leveraged more of the timing based attacks, while reducing the party to just Mario and Luigi. Paper Mario took the "collect 7 magical plot devices" storyline, and party system in another direction. Overall however, I would want to see a proper Super Mario RPG 2. Paper Mario seems to have completely lost it's way as of Sticker Star, (Super Paper Mario lost the art direction, Sticker star lost the combat direction entirely.) I have all of these RPG's. But the Super Mario RPG is still the best one, with 1000 year door and SuperStar Saga probably being the best versions of their respective series.

Super Mario RPG 2 NEEDS to happen on the Switch!
@andymadden81835 жыл бұрын
It was going to happen on the N64, but Square Enix still owns the rights to it.

I got it modded on my 3ds and it's even got a program for fast forwarding 5x speed, custom controls, save anywhere, frame rate adjust, and rapid fire with sensitivity adjustments. It's honestly what I play the most these days since sooo many of those games are from the golden age of gaming lol. And they look great, play great, and sound great. Hardly any problems with these emulations. It's fuckin awesome...
I might trust Nintendo to handle a successor properly, but Square Enix.... no.

Muticere They have had plenty of time to do such a game in the intervening years. They had a falling out in regards to FFVII but have had plenty of other games on the various Nintendo systems over the years including ones in the FF series specifically for them (I know this for a fact because I own all of the games they have made and/or published for the Nintendo systems I own). Clearly they just don't want to.

Looking at this game, it's amazing how far they were able to push the power of the SNES. While other companies were obsessed with bits and hardware add-ons for more processing power and bigger numbers, Nintendo focused on making great games with what they had. This game could give any 32 bit RPG (maybe a couple 64bit ones) a run for their money.
@cedwardsmedia3 жыл бұрын
This game is my absolute favorite among the Mario franchise. I think I enjoy it so much because it's a whole new unique take on the Mario world. Hell, when else are you going to find Mario and Bowser working together with Peach/Toadstool? I really wish Mallow and Geno would make a return. They were unique characters that, in my opinion, really added to the character of the game itself. I can't tell you how many times I rented this as a kid. Now, I can't tell you how many times I play it in emulators lol The mine kart mini-game was my absolute favorite. There was something about Moleville and Monstro Town that just made the game so amazing.

I pick it up and play it again every few years still. It will be a classic forever and I suggest everyone plays it, so they know how RPG should be done. Was my #2 game on SNES, only surpassed by Super Metroid. Who needs Final Fantasy when you have Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars 10/10.

I got the same case of serendipity. I started playing Super Mario RPG for the first time a couple weeks after he posted this video, but I haven't been on KZbin for a while so it wasn't until today that I saw he'd covered the game's history. It's mostly stuff I already knew about the game and Square's history, but there are some interesting new tidbits, like the fan vote on whether Mario should use a traditional RPG arsenal.

Too many people gloss over that Bowser is a playable ally character. THIS my friends is what takes this game from GREAT to EPIC for me. Bowser has always been my favorite Mario character and probably my favorite Nintendo character, who doesn't love a cool dragon-like turtle brute. From the moment Bowser joins your party at Booster's Tower onward, this has been my favorite rpg game of all time, and only overshadowed by Super Metroid on my top list of SNES games. Praise Nintendo and Square for making my dreams come true, and allowing me to control what could contend for my favorite Ninentdo. And also getting to see a side of him, we rarely ever did in game before then.
@andymadden81835 жыл бұрын
Only thing I can say to that is that the phrase "rpg game" does not work. It should be "RPG", as "Role-Playing Game Game" is stupid.

Funny Mystic Quest inspired Mario RPG but it was Mario that brought me to play Mystic Quest. I enjoyed but Mario set a pretty high bar….but the PlayStation came and with it FF7 and FFT. I don’t like that Square went full hack and slash button mashing, is like they lost their soul but hey maybe just maybe now this game will have a proper sequel since the game is getting a remake!
